Just spent some time catching up on the posts since yesterday!

I will definitely have a go at some sort of new tree topper - I'm wondering about using a family favourite teddy bear even .... dressed up of course!! Or I may just go down the traditional route of a lovely star! We've got some soldering iron in the garage I think so could make a metal one with coat hangers and hang sparkles off of it??

I love the idea of chopping the tree for the fire, and I desperately wish we had an open fire (particularly as our CH is broken!!!) to do this with - I would love this! Oh well, maybe one day .....

BTW - from another thread, today I made home-made tortilla bread - so, so, so easy and fast. Cost me nothing as already had all the very very basic ingredients! Have already filled them for everyones lunches tomorrow - has saved me a loaf of bread. Kids enjoyed making them too!

Do you mean the tortilla wrap things that are used in fajitas etc? If so, what's the recipie please? My big sis gave me a recipie for wraps yonks ago that was dead simple but I've never managed to make them properly...

Just found this brilliant thread. Many thanks to those who've posted the tips I've read so far. Here's another one - apologies if it's already been posted. I've searched under Christmas cards and not found anything and I don't have time to read all 191 pages! :rotfl:

When taking down my Christmas cards each year I cut out the bits that I can use as the gift tags on presents for next year. So for small cards this means just cutting the front page off, and for larger cards you can sometimes use parts of the picture if you cut very neatly. Some cards have print on the back of the picture so you can't use these unfortunately. Come next Christmas, at present wrapping time, I take them out again, punch a hole in the corner with a hole punch, write the dedication on the back and attach it to the present with some pretty thread.

It only saves the cost of a pack of gift tags but it's a good way of recycling all those Christmas cards, and the tags are really pretty and decorative.

I used the recipe on page 6 - double quantity, and it made 12 wraps so quickly, with hardly any ingredients at all.

I've jsut finished making a knitted toy (decoration only), and the kit said to use toy stuffing - however, I had a very flat spare pillow, so just opened that up and used the filling from there. Still plenty spare for the next project too. The outer cover of the pillow can now be used as a window rag.

floating mascara/liquid eye liner in a bowl of very very hot liquid or even getting a drop or two into the container itself will give you a few more days, sometimes a couple of weeks more use. ive still got a mascara going on this that ive had 2 years. its a backup as im a sodfr losing my current one but always does the trick.

and a lipbrush or cotton bud can get dregs of lipstick out for a while.

fake tan....i used to do this when i was a teenager. cold wet tea bags. over the skin. or even better immerse yourself in a bath of tea for a slight colour change to your skin. may stain the bath hence i never was allowed to do it in the bath but it did give my skin a very slight 'tan' subtle not dayglow orange

I have just made my sandwiches for lunch tomorrow with the last slices of bread from the loaf, and put them in the bag the loaf was in, instead of wrapping them in cling film.

done that before. or...wrap sarnies in foil and open carefully enough each day at work and you will get a few days use out of one bit of foil, same with sarnie bags as opposed to the devils handywork otherwise known as clingfielm.

What a brilliant thread, I'm nowhere near the end as it is soooo long but have picked up loads of tips already.

I have nothing thrifty to add but noticed a lot of people picking up fresh bones for their dogs and cooking them. Please do not give your dog cooked bones as they splinter and perforate the throat/stomach. It's something that may never happen to your dog but if it does you'll either be left with a hefty vets bill or a dead dog.

Sorry to sound so abrupt, I have 3 dogs of my own and wouldn't want anyone to go through the heartache of losing their dog this way :o
