I have an OH and grandson with Birthdays tomorrow so the party is at ours.
Went shopping for the party yesterday in the hope of getting bargains and found 2 suitable birthday cakes reduced. Both cake boxes were damaged but the BB dates were 4th Jan - saving!
They also had some seafood dips BB date 28 Dec but I didn't get those as they would be out of date by tomorrow and I am suspicious of seafood anyway.0 -
Premier Inn do a kids eat free breakfast which I was pleased about when I took DD and DS to London this summer...
I was firm with them about EATING what they had selected though...I get very cross about wasted food.
(Mind you I get equally cross when people pick up fresh stuff and then 'dump' it at the supermarket, on shelves or in the freezer. I'd love to know how much 'wastage' there is and what that adds to the costs of supermarkets...which, of course, are passed on to the customer).Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

A sneaky way to save money on electricity bills, is to run around turning things off of standby. It's estimated that up to 10% of our bill can be energy wasted on standby.

The thing is that many if not most, of these own brands products are made by the same "brand" companies on behalf of the various supermarkets. In the case of head and shoulders there is probably no difference whatever except for the price.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Custard tips this time which may be of use to someone:D I used to buy the posh custard sauce many moons ago but now find that I like a carton of ordinary custard served cold just aswell. If you are using a carton it's worth cutting them open when nearly empty- we reckon we found about another 1/4 pint or so lurking in there [tetra pack then washed up and recycled]. Using custard powder is a cheaper option than buying the premade stuff and I notice that Mr S now do a chocolate custard version of the premade stuff in the chiller cabinet. My version of chocolate custard for my trifle is to make up a pint of custard but with 3tbsp of custard powder rather than the normal 2tbsp. Thicken in the microwave and then stir in a bar of value plain chopped up chocolate until it's melted.

Another moneysaving tip from me (sorry mine are all about hotels!)
When on holiday etc I ALWAYS take a tupperware box with me to breakfast, and fill that up with food. Also wrap a couple of rolls in big napkins. (Do this v discreetly and have everything in a biggish handbag!) That then provides my/our lunch, saving ££££ on cafe lunches. Each evning wash out the tupperware box ready for the next morning.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.
