I bought an Indian takeaway before Christmas [I know not Old Style in any sense of the word:o] but I have frozen all the leftover sauce to make another curry with and the shredded raw onion that is always included went into the pasta bake that we had yesterday. I have also snaffled 3 of the tin foil trays for standing my parsley and rose geraniums cuttings I've got on my windowsill. The brown paper bag was clean so I've cut up that up for parcel wrapping. No food was wasted and all the packaging has been recycled.

Aiming for a life of elegant frugality wearing a new-to-me silk shirt rather than one of hair!

Ohhh, no need to feel guilty - I do that too, from time to time. :)

I see the purpose of saving the pennies is to make little treats possible. Life wants to be lived a little. ;)
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
  • omg... why did i never think of saving the sauces and onions / salads etc from take away stuff! We always get too much - so Thankyou!
On a more personal note, again thanks to the thread, I discovered mooncup! Thought I would try it, mostly from environment PoV but also obv the money saving!
First time using it is definitely a bit odd and fiddly, but I'm getting better!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I found an awesome deal on Huggies Shea butter / Aloe Vera baby wipes (72 per pack), usually £2.48 but currently 2 packs for £2 in sainsburies, i use these to take off my make up with as they dont leave my face feeling like its on fire as other wipes do. Also rinse it out and clean my sink/taps/sometimes the entire bathroom with it before disposing of it, lol.

I've been using a mooncup for about 3 years now, definately a moneysaver! And I can vouch that it does get easier to use with time.
Not only does it save me around £50 a year but its better for the environment too!

I am glad its not just me that looks forward to an unfranked stamp:D

For some unknown reason, every time an A5 envelope arrives it has NEVER been stamped, so yes I do look forward to receiving those!

For short breaks we always use Travelodges preferably @ £19 a night between us. For British holidays we go to Warner's Holiday Villages @£50 a day each all inclusive.

I drink only fruit tea and OH has black coffee in bags, so we bring our own drinks, but as soon as I get in the room I tip all the teas, coffees, milks, and sugars they provide into a carrier bag Next morning they fill up the tray again, and I keep emptying it into my carrier bag. The result is, I have always got a drawerful of "free" tea, coffee, milk and sugar for my house-guests!

I want you to be my friend, my OH always finds it so funny that I always want to stay in a Travelodge, and I too have bags of free coffee, tea and sugar, ketchup and mayo from Wetherspoons - also some sachets of olive oil and red wine vinegar that they give away in airports in Spain! Had an amazing time in America this summer, went to a conference so it was all paid for and the coffee/tea in the rooms was incredible, also had jars of honey, mini bottles of tabasco etc at the breakfast buffets! Came home with SO MUCH STUFF haha!

Have also been doing a lot of my birthdays shopping in the Xmas sales this year, however this year I am also writing down what I have bought next to people's names in my birthday book because last year I ended up with loads of stuff left over that didn't fit with anyone. Can use it up myself though.
    My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

Total £4151.44 | £2900.30 of £7051.74 paid off since diary started October 2024.
