Someone gave me a bread maker, but the only thing is that the size of the inside bit is small meaning that I only get very small loaves of bread (and the agitator at the bottom sticks in and needs to be removed). Can you buy ones that make larger loaves?
in my book that came with the machine it says try an extra 10 to 20 mils of water if this happens as dough is too stiff....worth a try0 -
My mum - a hoarder if ever there was one! - bought a cheap meat slicer. It has never been used. We have a gammon joint in the freezer. I'm going to defrost it, cook it, then slice the meat for sandwiches and refreeze loads of it for use another time as we seem to spend an absolute fortune on sandwich meat in this house. I can't see how it can be any different to what you buy at the deli counter in the supermarket, and it probably has a lot less additives as well! Please call me 'Pickle'

I don't know if you can still do it, but years ago Mum bought spare rolls of wallpaper from paint and wallpaper shops and used them to cover our school books with. Might not be cool anymore though.
I cover the tops of kitchen cupboards/wardrobes with wallpaper to save cleaning & replace regularly when dirty.....YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY....

Wow, I'll give that a try. Thanks!
BTW, may I as what size loaves does your machine make? Mine seem really quite small in comparison to shop-bought loaves. They are smaller even than a Warburtons' baby sized Toastie.
Thanks again!Please call me 'Pickle'

Hi everyone, to add to the comments on beauty products, I enjoy making my own too, it saves so much money and you get an immense feeling of satisfaction that no chemicals are needed.
I was given a book called 'The Holistic Beauty Book' and it has some great recipes. One I really liked was a face scrub, which is made essentially from ground almonds, jojoba oil, essential oils and ground porridge oats (plus some extras if you have them). I already had the basics at home and was so pleased. It lasts 2 months in the fridge and is SO much gentler on my sensitive (and often dry) skin. I think given I made it in less than 10 minutes it not only saved me money, but time and packaging too.
Also, if you click on my username and see my blog, I have posted on there details of a face oil I have made, which in the shops costs so much money and you can make for very little at home - your friends might love to get some as a gift for birthdays or Christmas, just find out what type of skin they have and also buy the 'Fragrant Pharmacy' book which is an absolute essential if you want to make your own beauty products.MFW #185

Hi InaPickle - it is a scrumptious oil that is sooo much cheaper than the Fabulous Face Oil, and I really recommend anyone to try the homemade version first. Make lots then save some for yourself and pour the rest into a pretty bottle for a friend or family member as a gift.
I love making my own beauty stuff so I could go on about it for ages! You do stuff through trial and error but as soon as you hit a recipe that *works* for you, you can save so much money compared to shop bought. The face scrub from the Holistic Beauty book is a winner for me, as is the face oil from 'Fragrant Pharmacy' (on my blog) xMFW #185

i think if one goes and pays for a meal and can't eat it all it is not unreasonable to ask for a manner in which to take it home and this should be figured into their business model however what is normally happening in situations like this is selective squeamishness about leftovers, a sense that it's not proper to eat them or ask to do so and i think that if i paid for it i should be able to eat all of it even if i can't do it then
the cost of a small piece of foil is tiny in relation to the cost to the restaurants image if they are too stingy or too snooty to provide it for the meal to be taken home
it shouldn't happen, but it does thus i have found a way around it but honestly, it's not at all unreasonable to request it and it shouldn't be treated as if it is!0 -
