Sneaky ways to save the pennies

I too can remember when tights first came in and they were VERY expensive (the equivalent to a whole weeks pocket money:eek:)so I used to buy stretch (as opposed to fitted) stockings and sew them to my (big, Bridget Jones style) pants.:p
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:cheered me up to visualize this as the rain came down on my washing!0 -
Great One is Porridge Oats. Smart Price Asda less than 50p great breakfast and great in baths makes the water go milky and a great scrub for face and body. Very moisturising as well.0

the JL price promise has quite narrow t&cs, one of which is that they don't price match the internet so worth checking online before buying. There are lots of reputable online shops too, I got our fridge freezer from sainsburys online, cheapest place, decent retailer in case of problems, good service and nectar points!0 -
Computer printers: I get my cartridges refilled at Cartridge World instead of buying new. It is a heck of a lot cheaper, better for the environment and there is no difference in quality.
Printer paper: I try to print on both sides where possible (learn how to do a 'manual duplex' from the help section), and where I can't and I need to print something unimportant like a draft copy of an essay, I print it on the other side of some paper I already printed on. I keep a box with all the paper I printed on just the one side which I also use for jotting things down).
Cleaning products: I've recently started making my own organic cleaning prodcts which work out cheaper and are so far just as effective as shop bought ones. The only difference is I find that I have to give them a little bit more time.
Herbs: I have a friend who freezes leftover herbs in a little water in ice-cube trays so that next time she's making dinner she just pulls one out and pops it in the pan. It's really effective and saves a lot of waste and buying new bunches of herbs/replacing dead plants.
Reading: I love to read but to stop me from buying stupid amounts of books online I have found that my local library service has an online catalogue where I look up the book I'm looking for, then place a request. It means that I get the same 'buzz' as having bought the book but without paying the cash!
Beauty treatments: local colleges with beauty/hair departments give cheap services to train in the trainee beauticians/hardressers in term time, so find your local one and enjoy some pampering! Please call me 'Pickle'

Pray tell where I can get some in Bertie Big Bo**ucks sized containers as I have plenty in mind!
Hello again! We seem to be thinking along the same lines...I can only get tiny baking sodas as well. I've got a huge 5L tub of white vinegar from Makro, though. If you can get somewhere like that, then do. If not, someone else recommended Chinese supermarkets. I reckon you would stand a good chance there.

Soapmaking suppliers sell them. Try The Soap Kitchen or Justasoap. You can also buy bicarb in large amounts from both of those suppliers. A 5 kilo bag from justasoap is £4.65 excluding VAT.0
