Yeah, my dog seems to think the cats litter tray is her own personal snack tray!:rotfl:

My mums dog was gross when he was a pup and would poop and immediately turn round and eat it!!! _pale_

Thankfully he grew out of that but would eat cats and other dogs, for a while.

We checked with the vet and apparently, they see this as wasted protein!!!! Now I know that on this site we are all about avoiding waste, but I think dogs are taking it too far...... :rotfl:

  • Hi Everyone,

My first time posting and I just wanted to say how helpful these threads have been.
I now think twice before throwing stuff away ie; Old bread few slices left, make breadcrumbs out of them.
When making bolognese add lentils to it, tastes good!
Whatever is left from dinner, oh takes for lunch next day, save buying lunch.
Everyday I come to this site think its great :j
  • The anti bacterial spray for shoes (scholls) is great for getting rid of problems smells in fabrics you can't wash. My nephew wets the bed, and although he wears those special pants, he still has the occasional mishap. A quick spray on the mattress kills of any bacteria and stops the smell.

The sprays quite pricey for what it is, but it's cheaper than renting an upholstery cleaner or getting a new mattress! ;)

It's nice for making dumplings in chicken soup and I think you can use it for frying potatoes, although I haven't tried it. I am sure I have read that chicken fat is not saturated and is actually quite a healthy fat.

I hate throwing this away too, but have been (onto the compost heap - a plastic enclosed top type one, don't want to encourage the rats).

I liked the idea of using it in dumplings, I would imagine they would taste delicious, but still a bit concerned about the saturated fat angle.

I was intriqued by rosemarym's comment that it might not be saturated so had a look on Wikipedia. The entry for chicken fat says that it is high in linoleic acid - 23% /en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_fat, which is a polyunsaturated fat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linoleic_acid.

On searching Google for the makeup of chicken fat, I found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linoleic_acid which raised more queries for me than answers. Still haven't formed an opinion. Am currently leaning towards using the resource I have ie use the fat from any meat I use, and keep overall meat consumption on the low side

    What do you guys think?

Haven't read them all so forgive me if this is a repeat:

Some might find this a bit scuzzy lol! But when I clean my hands or face with wet wipes rather than just throw it away I'll clean to loo or the sink with it first.

There's no bacteria in urine - it's sterile (unless of course in the case of a urinary infection). But if it gets rid of the smell then it's still useful.
  • I've just thought of another one!

There are two shelves in my oven, so I've moved each of them up one level. Ovens are hotter at the top and this means that the food will cook quicker! It should save lots of money on fuel, over time!

It's important to keep an eye on cooking times at first though till you get used to it, in order to avoid any overcooked accidents!
