marybishop wrote: »Sorry if this has been mentioned before (haven't got time at the mo to read back through!) but I use half the recommended amount of washing powder as I was told by an engineer on one my many call-outs(!!!) that it's better for the machine (doesn't gunk it up as badly). Washing comes out just as clean!
Apologies if someone else has already posted this!
Hi - also, if you occasionally run the machine on empty just with white vinegar it does the same job as Calgon plus saves lots of money :T Your dishwasher would love that tooMFW #185

Lakeland do a (non-foaming) stainless steel and glass pump dispenser for £8. Google "lakeland pump dispenser" for it.
They also do a foaming one - I have it in my kitchen and save loads of handwash as you only use about 10% liquid soap to 90% water.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

Loving this thread soooo much.
One of my favourites is Bicarb of soda and water to clean work surfaces/fridges etc...it's great for getting rid of odours as well.
Oh and blended chick peas in currys and chillies - doesnt adversely affect the taste and it's good for you!
Aldi does 100% fruit juices for 79p instead of upwards of £1.75 as I've seen everywhere else and they taste great. They also do the best pestos ever for 99p a jar - i find it shocking that pesto costs £1.99 in most places and it's tasteless.
compost food waste and share it with neighbours in the summer or sell it - great way to make friends in the neighbourhood.
blend old stale bread and freeze the crumbs for use later.
On another front if you have teenagers doing art at school and requesting all manner of fancy supplies (I was one of these teenagers hence how I know they exist) then the following may help -
Hairspray is a fixative for pastels/charcoal etc...so no need to buy an extra can from a specialist art shop
Copydex glue is great as a masking fluid for watercolours or other paintings (its the rubbery glue that peels off) and so much cheaper
Blusher brushes (I always seem to have three of these from various gift sets) are great as blending brushes. They are also good for cleaning keyboards and fancy mouldings on small items.
may not seem relevant to some but to those doing art gcse's and a levels it can be help.
Anyway that's my two cents.0 -
Oh I forgot to mention, I keep old socks and use them for cleaning - if you put them over the taps then pour on white vinegar - leave them overnight - then they will be all sparkly the following morning with no work involved. OS and lazy
Does this work with feet as well? :eek:Keep trying.........................what else is there to do?

Some great tips but hope everyone notes that only uncooked food; egg shells ,veggie peelings, leaves etc should be composted. composting cooked food only encourages vermin to your compost bin.Keep trying.........................what else is there to do?

Also, teabags and eggboxes can be composted.
