I can't imagine being embarassed about picking up money, no matter how small the amount

It's on the floor... it's free.... it's money. Where's the argument against?

  • We have a rule that any money I find in the house is mine. It saves people putting things down in random places or leaving it in pockets then putting stuff in the wash.

My DH has just asked me for a long, thin jar so that he can steep his paintbrush without putting too much paint remover in it. We did have one. It's a good feeling

I know several users of this forum who would jump on you for that. They would say "The money does not belong to you, taking something that does not belong to you is theft"

Personally, although technically it may be wrong, in reality I don't see anything wrong with it. You can't expect everyone who finds a penny on the street to go running to the police station to hand it in.

If they did the police would not be very happy!

I always pick up money that I find in the street and any that is left in clothes to be washed is mine too!

Caterina....was given two books about the laws of attraction lately...The secret and another, can't remember the name of that...have read first one and am working on the secret....makes sense to be positive in your thoughts.

I've handed over money to the police in the past, anything in note form and also once a small bag of coins. Twice it's been returned to me after a period of time.

If anyone is around who may have dropped the money, I would say and hand it to them. But we're not talking about the larger amounts here, as has been pointed out here a few times, people literally throw 1's and 2's (in my case here 5c coins) on the ground deliberately as though it shows their superiority. *That* is wrong and I see no issue with picking those up.

Odd coins I pick up sometimes and those I'll keep.

I have found notes in shops and I hand them in. Mind you, I once found about £50 in Ikea by the till. Handed it to the person on the till and they didn't seem to know what to do with it. So they just took it off me.
I know that when I used to work for Tesco, if money was handed in, a name, address and phone number was taken and if it wasn't claimed after a certain amount of time, the finder was contacted and they could come and get it.

Shame that didn't happen in Ikea. ;)

Jokes apart, I ALWAYS pick up pennies, on account of the fact that being snobbish about small gifts from the Universe will send out a signal "out there" that I do not want good things to come to me/that I am ungrateful. So I pick up pennies and give thanks when I do.

Has anyone read books about the law of attraction?[/quote]

Me too - I think I'm giving the Universe plenty of hints to help me out - must be due for a "biggie" by now!

Yet more food picked up in the week - a green pepper this time. Thinking about it - the Universe has obviously got me weighed up as a healthy eater - as the food I come across is always fruit and vegetables - apart from a pack of cheese once and a can of lager recently. I've never come across "junk" food - so I think I must have put in a pretty "specific" request...:D

When buying heavily reduced Christmas paper in the sales I concentrate on getting plain ones eg gold and silver or if a patterned one something like stars that aren't just Christmassy so that I can use them for gift wrapping throughout the year.

  • Must say I've enjoyed reading through everyone's tips. Today I bought a 3 litre bottle of cooking oil, which was cheaper than buying 3 x 1 litres, and decanted 1 litre into the bottle I had in my kitchen cupboard. Can't fit the 3 litre bottle in the kitchen cupboards as it's too tall, but have room in an old metal filing cabinet we have in the garage. Also store loads of BOGOF jars of coffee, tinned stuff etc in there to make the most of the offers we would otherwise not have room to store. Acquired the old filing cabinet when we moved offices and it was dumped!
