It's 2.2lbs to the kilo which I personally would need a calculator to compare...

I'd need a calculator when buying tomatoes in Morrison's!

No loose ones left, so had to buy a packet.

    57 - 67mm 17p each
    47-57mm 16p each

No mention of weight anywhere, so which are the best value?

I gave up in the end and bought the 16p ones.

something i've noticed is Icelands round pound value, really not that great value, a few months ago they had a butter/spread at £1 yet in all the other supermarkets i used, it was only 99p, this may 'only be a penny' to us but could make them a fortune, i haven't used them since, so thats an occassional penny saved.

You will find the same thing happens at poundland yet three shops along at Homebargains the same item might be 98p ie some hairsparys. A pound shop is not always cheaper even though it sounds like it. So I always go to HB first then to the other shops if I need to.

Re the spatula for scraping the last dregs out of jars, butter tubs, etc. Lakeland do a lovely little thin flexible spatula which is idea for this purpose. It's been used a lot in this house since we bought it.

Penny saving - tesco value instant whip at 6p a packet - make up 1 or 2 packs replacing some of the milk with water and milk powder. Whisk ferociously, and pour into empty fromage frais pots, this makes loads of little puddings for kids! Make sure you have saved enough pots, though :)
I'd rather give my son fromage frais or yoghurt made with full cream milk tbh.....what is the nutritional value of instant whip ?

I remember many years ago as a young teen I stooped to pick up a penny and got laughed at by a group of people who were sat on a bench, they had superglued it to the path!!

a while ago I saw a pound coin on the ground but didn't pick it up in case someone had glued it down. I think if I saw one again I might give it a subtle kick as I walked along to see - oh dear, have I thought about this too much? :o

There is actually a 50p glued to the pavement outside Woolies in Prestwick and it's caught me out more than once! :o

Now where's my brain I put it down somewhere......

  • Apologies if this has been on here before but only managed to read about 35 pages so far but love it love it love it!
I have very curly and frizzy hair, rather than spending a fortune on expensive moussses to stop the frizz I now use a large blob of own brand conditioner after towel drying my hair, leave it to dry naturally (no using electricity guzzling hair dryers) and it works just as well as mousee is a lot cheaper and my hair is always very soft and shiny now.

Good for you and your son. No offence, but I have 3 daughters. I can't afford 21 pots of fromage frais and/or yoghurt a week, plus the ones that go in their packed lunches, plus the OH's large yoghurts. Sometimes they have instant whip made with milk etc as I said. They drink plain milk at other times. This cheap pudding makes a change for them.
Chocolate, sweets and crisps also have little nutritional value, but we all like to peck at them now and again.

You reminded me of another regarding olive oil, I bought one of the spray bottles ages and ages ago. Was probably more expensive than a half litre of oil, however I just keep it refilled from a big bottle and really handy if you just need a little squirt of oil, such as on grilled mushrooms or to grease a tin. (Much nicer to use than the pump one I had from Lakeland). I also spray tatties for roasting, so they are not sitting in too much oil

It helps use less oil; healthier and cheaper, as I would just slosh a load on from a big bottle and less drippy messes down the side of the bottle. :D

Good for using outside on the BBQ too.
