I have a problem also with charity shops, i go in an have a look at the tops £5.50 for a top that has a next label!!!! or an M&S label or dot perkins huh terrible i went next door into Dot perkins and much nicer "brand new" tops in the sale £4 and the latest style, now why would i pay £5.50 for something used with possibly ink marks or holes(seen this many a time)stains or bobbles plus you don't know if that is the original colour or if it has been washed that much it is lighter.
Of lately if it has a recognised label it is bumped up in price to high levels that i refuse to pay after all what happened to all tops being £2-3 each, dresses and jackets are worse £10-15 for these.....even though you can see the condition is well worn, and these items lie there for weeks on end as no one is willing to pay for it !!!!!!
I don't go to charity shops as much , well i do have one in our town which is cheaper(£1.50-3 for tops)i have some good bargains from them and they have some really nice clothes but they don't bump up the prices because of the labels, them i do shop at as they are reasonable priced for second hand goods.

I know that the money is for charity and such but wehy oh why have they put their prices up like this !!!!

Boot sales are much better for kids toys, clothes, pet stuff etc many 10p 50p bargains there lol, i got a fluffy cat igloo for 50p that the girls loved.

  • I have a giant fabric conditioner bottle which I got on offer ages ago - now I buy smaller bottles in Lidl and pour them into the big one and dilute it straight away - lasts ages longer and no-one has noticed a difference yet!

That is such a good idea... I bought a big bottle of tesco value fabric conditioner for 33p but it is utterly useless...but now I will buy nice concentrated stuff and use that massive bottle to pour it in and dilute it! Thanks for the idea :T

On the +size subject I have similar problems.

Why will Primak sell me knickers and nighties but nothing else?
The same is true of quite a few shops out there.
I also have the problem of having size 9 feet - the one shop I could buy ladies shoes in my size has just closed and when they were open I had very little choice. When I was younger I could get away with wearing mens shoes or trainers all the time but I look a bit ridiculous now.

I have never owned a pair of ladies trainers in my life - though I don't think pink stripes are really me!!

Me too, JayJay! It can be so difficult to get comfortable size 9 shoes. Not sure how old you are, but have you tried Hotter Shoes - but not much use if you want really trendy shoes or stilettos? They go up a size 9 but they aren't cheap. Around £45 per pair - but they are absolute bliss on the feet - especially if you need wide fittings.

I can also recommend Brantano shoes, if you have one of their shops near you. I've had a few pairs from there - but have to say that for comfort, I adore 'trekkie-style sandals' as long as they don't have 'lumpy/bumpy bits' under your feet.

  • my mum works just down the road from where i live, there is a large tesco with recycling point so about once a fortnight my dad comes to pick her up and pops into tesco with the plastic to pick up the points, then my nan and a few of my aunts that handily live on the route to the tesco said he can have their plastic too, so he now does a round trip and picks up everyones plastic (not costing any extra in fuel as its on route anyway) and gets the points, i've started donating mine as well (i have no recycling bin or car to get the stuff to tesco myself) and on a good run they can get 200 points (1/4 point per peice thats a lot of plastic!!), they confess that they do sometimes cut the larger pieces in 2 to stretch it that bit further, they have been doing this for almost 1yr now and think they will be able to pay for xmas food with the points they have made.

Has taken me a whole week to get to the end of this fantastic thread. I already do a few of the things mentioned, but have started with some new ones now. I have this one for left over mash potato. Add some chopped onion and either salad cream or mayo and mix well. This makes a lovely potato salad. Here in Ireland this is really popular and when we first came here was the only potato salad they made!! Ive since learned how everyone deals with the left overs and have joined them!

ooh! thanks for that! my mum used to make that when we were kids. she used to add hard boiled egg too. really tasty! I occasionaly make my own potato salad with a tin of new potatoes for about 30p. add a really chopped onion and mayo. hubby loves it ;)
  • Thanks for the dashboard cleaning tips, I will give them a try..... xx
