• I'll second (third?) the Evans recommendation. I don't have big feet but I do have wide feet and their shoes are lovely and wide. I usually take a 5.5 but wear a 4.5 in Evans as their sizes are big.

They have fab sales, I've got some lovely shoes I bought for not very much at all by shopping at the right time.

I don't know if this would work, but I've seen somewhere--probably Kim & Aggie--that you can use the inside of banana skin to polish shoes. If peeps are using shoe polish for dashboards, perhaps narna skins would maybe work too?

• Ive been reading about bulking out stews and mince etc with lentil, veggies....... Im now looking for honest opinions on how these taste, I dont want to spoil a good lump of stew in the slow cooker without knowing how it turns out - thanks !

It really depends on your personal taste. I happen to love lentils so don't mind adding them. As long as the stew is full of flavour the lentils will just add a subtle depth of flavour and a lovely texture.

Thanks for all the info on shoes.

I've never seen size 9 in New Look though I'll go and have a look and see if they have started getting them in here recently. I didn't know Evans sold shoes though if they are wide fittings they may not be much help as I have quite narrow feet.

Well if all else fails I could wear my works issue steel toe-capped Doc Martins:rotfl:

If you're a marmalade maker and like a really thick chunky marmalade, finely chop and freeze the skins from the oranges, lemons, grapefruits and limes you use in drinks and in the kitchen generally instead of throwing them into the compost bin. You can then add them to the marmalade mixture when you making it to add extra flavours or make it more chunky. You can also store these in a jar of sugar for adding to cake mixtures.
Give 'em a wash in hot soapy water first though to remove the wax - and more importantly the mould inhibiting chemical they are coated in...

No problem. :D

If you add the red ones to bolognese they really just disappear and you can't taste them at all. ;)

This must be the ultimate in meanness but I've just saved today's potato peelings, sprayed them with "One Calorie" pump oil and put them in the oven to roast while I was cooking a flan.
Result: a few free crisps to nibble which cost nothing so that's one lot of VAT on a packet of snacks that the Chancellor won't be getting!

Shirley Goode (remember her from the 70's and 80's used to do things like this including saving your orange peel to make marmalade.http://www.shirleygoode.com/
• We only fill the dishwasher when we've run out of implements to use - always full and used much less often. Also only use half or even a quarter of a tablet and turn off at the drying stage. (I know lots of people here probably won't agree with diswashers but if you do then I reckon we have saved a lot doing the above).

Similarly with washing machine - don't wash until almost run out of things to wear and only use half or quarter the recomended powder or tabs. Saves a fortune on washing childrens stuff.
