Can I ask where you buy this fabulous Jojoba oil from? I am very allergic to most beauty products which are stacked with fragrances and paraben preservatives so I am totally up for trying new things

Last time I bought some, I got a 500ml bottle very cheaply from faith.uk I don't have the web addy but the phone number is a freephone: 0800 0430 826.

  • Thanks for the advice on Jojoba oil shopping, will have a look for some

A money-saving thing my parents do that I have started too is to use all the paper from printing that has gone wrong, junk letters etc and tear/cut into quarters, add a bulldog clip and use for messages or shopping lists. And if you blag all the free pens you can too it saves a fortune!

Has taken me a whole week to get to the end of this fantastic thread. I already do a few of the things mentioned, but have started with some new ones now. I have this one for left over mash potato. Add some chopped onion and either salad cream or mayo and mix well. This makes a lovely potato salad. Here in Ireland this is really popular and when we first came here was the only potato salad they made!! Ive since learned how everyone deals with the left overs and have joined them!

We do the same with junk mail. Turn A4 sheets over and they are blank the other side so can be cut up for notes..

A4 sheets which are not crumpled can be recycled in the printer for the sort of printing which doesn't leave the house or is only needed for a short time. I did once print something for a friend and forgot to use new paper. She was rather surprised to get a flyer for a theatre we both use!
  • Helloooo. I used to do my washing on the full wash at 40 degrees. I now only do most of my washing on the quick wash and the water is probably just lukewarm that comes through the pipes now!! I only use one tiny scoop of washing powder - I live in the North West of England and up here we have soft water so you don't need loads of washing powder. I thought doing this would not get my clothes clean, but I have not noticed a difference. I only put the underwear and face cloths on a hot wash. I know its been mentioned on here before but those Soda Crystals are absolutely fab and Im glad Ive found out about them on here!!! They only cost 89p in my local bits n bobs shop. I use the cheapest biological powder (usually shops own brand) and have found it works ok and is miles cheaper. I don't use conditioner a lot, just for towels etc.

I also dont buy shoe polish anymore cos when I ran out I used some old fashioned furniture polish (the type in the same style of tin that shoe polish comes in) and it works just as good and smells nicer too!!

I don't use vac sticks anymore I just put a tiny drop of aromatherapy oil in, it lasts forever and smells fantastic and has no artifical pollutants in it so better for you too, try 'melissa' which is a blend of some georgous oils (nothing else added) and you will love it too.

Now its winter, and the electric bills are getting really high, I like to use candles at night - it makes the living room have a lovely atmosphere and saves on electric (i sound really tight now)!! I usually get mine from the local charity shop - I buy them all year round and stuff them into the electric metre cupboard until winter.... some smell georgous too!!

I never used to go into charity shops, but I really have the bug now. You can get some great things that would cost 80-90% more. I know because its second hand it puts some people off, but you have to remember most people are like you and me and are nice and clean!!

Have you also tried Tesco's basic cosmetics??? I know its a bit of a come down for some peeps, but Ive found them ok, and at the price they sell for they are fantastic value and a great way of saving money! I used to buy the really good brands but as money is getting tighter I use Tescos now.

If anyone has anymore tips, please keep posting them, I come on here now and again and read the last few days tips (there are some fantastic ideas on here)!!!

    Keep saving folks!!!

  • Hi all,

I recently learned how to make lemon curd and also rice pudding, this saves a bit on those lovely desserts... also I bought 5 bars of soap from the £0.99 store and I will be making 2 litres of liquid soap for the first time from each bar (by grating the bar into hot water and stirring until fully melted). This means 10 litres for £0.99! Some will be for washing up (with added lime essential oil) and some for washing hands or shower gel (with added jojoba oil and honeysuckle essential oil for moisturising and lovely smell).

mummyfrugal, love your post:T :T Some good tips there, but I especially like your comment re charity shops that most people are like us, nice and clean:D My only complaint with them is round my way, they charge the earth, or don't have things I wanticon9.gif For example, secondhand books start (even for paperbacks) at £2, anything better is quite likely to be marked £4 or £5:eek: I have seen clothes marked at as much or even more than their original selling price in the cheap shops (Primark, Peacocks etc):rotfl: But I keep on looking;)

Ha ha here too Churchmouse...the charity shop in my village had a George teeshirt for £3.99 last Sat...exactly the same as the one I bought in Mr A for £2.50 in the summer! They're getting so expensive that if we say we got something in Harrods the locals know just where it came from
