I've been doing a bit of trundling round the Net myself - so am hoping I will get the chance on Sunday if I'm lucky to try out your curry weezl - fingers crossed for some time available for shopping. Saturday - I will be too busy in other directions. Am also doing a bit of "research" around the lines of "basic ingredients" as I call it for putting a couple more bits in that direction on me blog. I personally am pondering more along the lines of constituent ingredients for things - rather than recipes as such. Reckon between us we will hopefully "cover all angles" - but you are doing MUCH more than I could even contemplate foodwise.0

Evening pepys! Thanks for new recipes pepys!! I got a wee bit distracted looking for recipes and will make an old greek fave spanacopita! Didnt find a perfect one for the spinach pie and while browsing saw the span' recipe & remember it being deeicious so will go for that! Will post recipe when I find one that fits ingredients I have (or will just cobble my own & post that!). Am increasingly impressed with Weezl's budgetting as just back fro Mr T's where I spent £55!! (again!). Have got mum coming for the w/e so got treaty things which always cost more so stuffed up MY budget!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Hi all,
Thank you so much for such a fabulous thread - I've been glued to this thread for the past three evenings (stealthily avoiding the disaster zone that is the house...)
I have one recipe to offer, in relation to Spinach v Nettles. I'm a massive fan of the Convent Garden Spinach & Nutmeg soup. This is similar, tweaked a bit, but should cost pennies few when made...
25g butter
large finely chopped onion
25g flour
900mls veg stock
lemon juice
700g spinach (or nettles!)
freshly grated nutmeg
150ml milk
50ml sour cream
salt & pepper
Sweat the onion in butter gently until cooked through and soft, without colour. Add flour and cook for another few minutes, then gradually add remaining ingredients bar milk and cream. Cover, bring to boil and simmer until spinach has wilted. Allow to cool slightly before blending and adding milk and cream and voila!
The original recipe calls for 1/2 a lemon and fresh single cream, but when I added these it just tasted too sweet, hence my 'tweak'. I add a dessertspoon of lemon juice only and LOTS of nutmeg. You could probably get away without adding any cream also and just adding the milk.
It will be lurid green colour when cooked (i.e. a lawn clippings special), but it is dee-lish!0 -
Ceridwen emergency knotweed advice needed! Which part are we meant to be foraging?!! I thought it was the top (like nettles!) & Weezl thinks its the root - like rhubarb! We have a cunning plan to forrage am but we need to be getting the right bits!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0

Just been for a big long bike ride, OH now convinced I have lost it as I pointed out all the edible things along the way! Just ordered some citric acid for making cordial, there's loads of elderflowers out everywhere. Think I have found lots of well hidden blackthorns too, so fingers crossed for bumper sloes later in the year. Going to get a grow bag tomorrow and hide some veg in with the flowers in tubs ( I dont have a garden atm :-(). Just need to find a way of stopping the OH looking at me sideways, maybe home grown radish will do the trick? These OS threads have reawakened something in me!Eat food, not edible food-like items.
