now weezl where your sense (or is it sence? One of my dyslexic words!!) of adventure!! I enjoyed the cow parsley hunt & think of you with a chuccke when I pass it...esp when I see a flippin great big elder bush right next to it!! Plus if I hadnt [STRIKE]cocked up[/STRIKE] been diverted we wouldnt have got that "are you mad" look from the garden centre woman or made Mr allotment secretary aware that there is such a thing as not knowing your elder from your cow parsley & made him laugh now would we eh!! (think I may book him in at work for a counselling session...I warned him last year that I would get my bikini out when the sun started to shine & I dont think he's been quite the same since!!)...
oo back to questions re marmalade! When I started making marmalade I got some jars initally from the cook shop & then started a wee trade at work. Gave it away in exchange for jars initially & then when trade increased I sold it and still got jars from people! Its lovely cos I go to work & there on my desk are surprise jars!! Plus I love making it (relaxing!) & seeing peoples enthusiastic responses! One woman is waiting for the price of strawberries to come down so I can do her some strawberry jam!! Didnt think of selling bread so may try that next!! umm good plan!! Why not make a couple of batches & see how you go? People are fine with recycled jars as theyre sterilised & I put a nice label on (lakeland) and when feeling posh a nice plastic lid thing to go over the top to make it extra pretty. Hope that helps!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -

oh, popped back to say, jeniD I've posted a pic of the updated carbs spreadsheet here,
Everything is of a 125g dry weight serving except the spuds which is 600g raw weight.
That was to make it comparable, I made sure the calorie value was roughly the same, then looked at how much of each nutrient it gave you.
If confused, just say, and I'll try to explain again what I've done, think I'm too sleepy to be clear tonight!:D

I think we can safely conclude weezl and ISOM are best buddies - watch out for low-flying insults!;)
Now do study that internet link I sent you for identification details both of you BEFORE you set off on your foraging! Right you two - now line up and salute and repeat after me "yes ceridwen, of course ceridwen"- Dont forget I'm old enough to be your mother - just - technically speaking! so a bit of "respect" for my grey hairs please - or I'll put you both in the naughty corner and you'll get sent to bed with no supper.LOL

I'm not sure on the rules about selling home made stuff - but I do know a good place to do it.
Infant and junior school staff rooms. If you offer a percentage of takings to the school funds they are usually happy to let you set up your stall in the lunch break. I can imagine pretty fabric 'mob' cap tops and labels in caligraphy writing, marmelade, jam and chutneys would do well.
Because they items are relatively cheap, lots will buy.0 -
oo hw exciting C! The naughty corner! Havent been there for a while!! If I was bing REALLY naughty I'd ask if we also qualify for a spanking but that may be a joke too far (PMSL though!!). I agree with the cheking on knotweed although if you have ever been on an allotment you will know that lots of people will give you helpful tips anyway...problem is much of it is conflicting!! but fear not "yes C...we will obey!" May I say that I am somewhat tentative about eating it...although I did also say that about nettles!
Re friendship all I can say is its lovely to have an MSE'er locally who is likeminded & who gets the MSE way of life - which so many around me dont!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
oo sorry my post took over an hour to do as on the phone making more tea etc!! Shaz do tell re the recipe! Always good to know of a good one thats been tried & tested! Re the rules for selling I dont think you can sell frmay (ie farmers markets etc) unless your kitchen has been inspected so thats out for me! Re work selling mine has gone well but I tend to do it in fits & starts so its extra money rather than making money & I try to put it in whang - my paper mache piggy (who was broken into on a lean month & refixed & decorated!!)!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! thanks all! :T great ideas...
Checked freezer, no spare cheese alas...
Bartering might work for a 'thing' rather than time (lovely ISOM swapped me some eggs for a tub of almond body butter, but those have gone now!) just because with all these guests we've got no spare time to offer to do something to swap it for!!!
But for the future will most definately offer this.
JeniD, no pate left alas, but could do houmous toast and then the savory meat pie, and then a rice pudding, made with long grained rice, honey coconut and milk powder. Shouldn't have to spend anything to make it happen
I think asking people to bring something is fine and me and my family do it. But it's not the dome thing in Mr Weezl's camp.

Morning Weezl, just been having a catch up, and just had a couple of thoughts about your in laws dinner!
How about herby roast potatoes, or hasselback pototoes to go with the pie, looks slightly posher that mash, which sounds what Mr W is after to impress his mum and dad! Also you could make individual pies, always look quite good done in large ramekins, might get away with less ingredients then too. Rice pudding is great, oh and my kids love hm one, alas i only like the cheap tinned stuff, but when I make it I do huge quantities, then leave half to cool, roll into little desertspoon sized balls and deep fry for a couple of mins and if I have any roll in icing sugar - pinched from Cooking for Coco book, looks really good though when they're all piled up on a plate.
And to whoever wanted a cheese biscuit recipe, John Burton Race has a fab one, really light and melt in the mouth and simple too. will dig it out and post later, give me a prod if I forget though!
Has anyone made marmalade in the microwave, slight problem with hob at the mo, and I really fancy some homemade stuff now I've read all your posts!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000
