The other one that's nice is cassulet (but we have it with bacon or smoke pork sausage added).
Serves 4 (serve with garlic bread or crusty bread if really hungry)
One onion. Chopped and gently fried in a little oil. (add bacon/sausage too if you want to).
Add bit of garlic (I use puree) some herbs (basil/thyme).
Add 3 tins of drained beans (kidney, butter, black eye, anything on offer type or any cooked beans from freezer)
Add one tin of chopped tomatoes (or I use passata).
Cook gently till warmed through.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
In lieu of nettles - then perhaps you can move onto bean sprouts. If you "grow" your own then they come in at something incredibly cheap like 1p per 2 portions worth (way back when.....could be more now). Perhaps that could be a little challenge - umpteen ways to use bean sprouts?:D - and they are super-healthy too.0

I heard the nettle programme on Radio 4, something about 'be kind to nettles week'
although Sophie Grigson likes to think of eating nettles as taking revenge.
Nettle beer and nettle ice cream were also mentioned.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

Hello! I'm just trying to perfect a recipe for spicy couscous for my healthy 3 month veggie meal planner.
Only I can't afford the ingredients to make up a batch for a taste test and adjusting of seasonings!:o
Would anyone be brave enough to volunteer to be a taste tester? (How odd you are Weezl :rotfl:)
You would need to have either the following, or exactly half that amount to make a smaller batch in your cupboards and freezer:
4x 400g cans plum toms
1 kilo couscous
6 small onions
80ml veg oil
garlic, garam masala/curry powder (mild)
Sultanas
1 kilo bag of fine green beans frozen
coarse grain mustard
OK, OK, I know it's a long shot, but look how good it is for you (percentages are of an adult woman's daily requirement):

It makes 8 meals, or 4 if you halve it...

Going back many posts thanks for the branflake recipe which I made last weekend. I have a similar one for malt loaf but rather than soaking the fruit etc in milk I use cold tea which I would imagine would bring the cost down a bit and also make it suitable for vegans perhaps?

Hmmm...tester for spicy couscous...
Well....would "Maille Dijon Originale traditional dijon mustard" cut the mustard so to say (..ooo..wince!). I aint got coarse mustard - just that one (very rarely buy mustard). If you think it would do - then I could have a go at doing suitable quantities for 2 people (aka my usual style of cooking - cook 2 helpings and have it 2 days running). Not sure if I would be able to find frozen fine green beans...no Asda here in my locality...but could investigate to see if I could find some (or use an alternative).
What sayst thou weezl? Any good as a tester offer? (Feel free to take a better offer if you get one - lol).0 -

I'll welcome all the feedback I can get! ceridwen, have you got any other green veg that could substitute?
Purpleprincess, maybe do a quarter batch, if you're not sure about your OH!!
Shall I post a detailed recipe? Will do asap tomorrow.
Ta hugely for being willing to play along :T If either of you have the technology, can we have step by step piccies?
Ceridwen, will yours be an organic version, I'd like to post the costs for that too, if you don't mind...? The original is 41p per evening meal...
