Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
Got a phone call from them today asking me if I was satisfied with their service.

    I'll say!!

As I have TWO accounts with them I got 10,000 sheets of paper, Biscuits, 3 CD players (don't ask) and a natty little Alluminium Briefcase. (don't know the code for that one but if you get the right lady and crawl like buggery, they will oblige), One roll of 12 selotape (which I ordered in error so they sent me a 6 roll and didn't collect the 12 roll??).

yep, I'm very happy with their service.:):):):):)

The lady wouldn't give me the paper deal. Apparantely memo's are flying around viking HQ warning them not to give it out to first time customers!!!

What shall I put here?
  • After being told that I couldn't get the CD player last week as I wasn't an existing customer - I had said don't bother with the order.

Today 10reams of paper turned up and my account was debited £1.06!

90p for the paper + 16p VAT. No delivery charge for first time customer.

Guess I'll ring up and order something tomorrow as I'm now an exisiting customer!!
  • Hi there, first post. :j - Ordered on friday, not here yet, rang customer services, they are putting out a trace on the courier and will ring me to see where it is. There was no mention of printing error so probably sussed it after a deluge of people put orders in. Thanks for this site as hopefully my young children will have a cheap new toy to break soon. :T

Rang viking to ask where my order was as i placed it on friday, and was told that delivery was tue. Daughter stayed in all yesterday and nothing, nothing today. Just rang and was was told that they would put out a trace on the courier and will ring me to see where it is.

They have just rang back to say that my order had been cancelled, because 'they did not think that it was a genunine order' Even though i have a account with them. Because the last time i ordered was last year i do not use them enough to warrent a promotion like this.

So i explained to her that my sister got her order on thur and she was a new customer. Little white lie there, didn't want to mention this site. And her order arrived on fri. She told me that this was not possible.

So i told her where to stick her book, and remove me from their mailing list, and do not send me any more Viking promotion leaflets with products that your not gonna allow me to order.

So to people waiting i wouldn't hold your breath, but i hope that your lucky.

    I wasn't............

This is very very out of character for them, you must have 'rubbed them up the wrong way' somehow because they have always been perfectly polite and civil whenever I have dealt with them - and they usually go a lot further than strictly necessary to keep their customers happy. Perhaps we are overworking them?!!

We often get 2 free gifts on our work order - just from the cheek of asking them nicely. We are only a small company and spend less than £80 a month with them - so it is not simply to retain us as customers. We normally put the usual rucksack or whatever on our list, and then ask if they have anything nice like biscuits or chocolates which we can share in the office to cheer us up - they rarely disappoint.

It really doesn't pay to be rude to the CS person and it is not fair because they are just doing their job. Free gifts are after all meant to be a bonus - not the main item in your order!

    I don't see how i could have rubbed-them-up-the-wrong-way, i placed a order
I rang a order through on friday morning, i used my customer number as i have ordered before. So i'm not a new customer and i get information of them through the post.

I placed my order no probs, was told delivery day was tue due to bank holiday. No probs...............

Rang yesterday to check where my order was. Will ring back, fair enough they did. But to tell me that my order was cancelled. Because they did not feel it was a 'genunine order' their words not mine.

But previous orders that i have placed are.

I got a stroppy customer service person telling me 'that i'm not ordering genunine'

    How would you feel?

So if i'm not genunine don't send me anymore leaflets with offers on. Oh and when i decide to replace this chair which i'm siting on. Which was bought from viking. I won't be going there i'm taking my custom of to Lyreco where i can get one for much cheaper than viking, with out paying delivery.
Oh but no boggie box, but i'll have extra cash in my back pocket.

Viking should look into how they speak to customers, not new ones but people that have ordered before.

Some of you may have missed this from Martin's Blog.

I actually am an existing business customer. I could not be arsed wasting time and effort for "something for nothing" but when I have used them in the past it has been fun to get something.

Shame how some MSEers have behaved. I wonder what effect it will have for us regular customers.

" ...... I thought the following e-mail debate was interesting. I received this e-mail from the MD of Viking Direct, Richard Carvell. Many times people from this site have gone to get freebie intro offers from Viking and its been in the tip.

HIS EMAIL (I have his permission to publish it)

    Dear Mr Lewis,

I thought I should write as your site has been giving my business a lot of publicity in the last few days. Some of it, to be honest, less welcome but beggars can’t be choosers. I quite like your site, your philosophy and, as a consumer myself, value your advice. On the downside its causing me one or two problems at the moment!

Yes, we have promotions and freebies to encourage new customers and reward loyal customers. Yes, sometimes I’m very trusting and don’t put restrictive conditions on the offers. Sure I know some people will take the !!!!!! and cherry pick the very cheapest items but it will be a small proportion of all those that take up the offer and I will win many more genuine customers. Unfortunately for me the forums such as your own have changed the dynamics of these offers and the proportion of freeloaders who will never buy again
has reached untenable proportions. So I’ll be adopting the restrictive conditions for future
promos: shame but that’s life. It is not your fault.

Neither do I blame you or MSE for the fact my real customers can’t get through - that’s my lookout too - silly me for having a freephone number andan introductory offer that was open to a very liberal interpretation of ‘new customer’.

However I do have a problem with my staff being abused by MSE readers demanding their ‘right’ to free stuff in the most extreme terms. I have people in tears tonight. Sod the thousands of pounds we’ve given away to people who are not interested in us: what bothers me is my people are in the firing line.

I appluad you for contributing to a society that is demanding as consumers insisting on best and fair value each time. I question whether we want to create a society of vultures out to get something for nothing and then ready to abuse those who don’t go along.

    Best regards
    Rich.

I have to say that does not sound like the service normally received from Viking. I used to order a few things (not vast amounts as we were a very small company) but never had any probs whatsoever.
I recall one time I needed to return some paper because they had ordered me one to many and I was asked if I would like to donate it to a charity as obviously postage costs etc it was cheaper for them to let me keep it and donate it, so I actually donated it to a charity that helps children.

So I just wanted to point out to other people that on most occasions that ive dealt with Viking ive had no probs whatsoever.

I was very sorry to read this. It really is not fair, exploiting loopholes, and taking up special offers is fine in my book, but abusing and intimidating other people to do it - that is really not on. I have a job where we sometimes get a bit of flak on the phone, it's not nice! At least play the game and place a respectable order if you want the free gifts!
