I wasn't intending to be condescending just that it is sometimes easy to get carried away (just like bidding on ebay) and pay more that the "free" gift is really worth.

I accept that you would have to spend about £10 to get a cheap CD Player.

I am also a little worried about a few people who claim they are resorting to "little white lies" in order to qualify for the free gift - it's fine where a special offer is discovered and published on the forum but we shouldn't have to resort to any deception to claim it.

Well, i bought a chair, 10 reams of paper-both of which i will use and got a free cd player, whats wrong with that? and since when did anyone on here need you to be their conscience?

    Why don't you think that I am a true MSE'er ?

The purpose of the site is to raise awareness of special offers and bargains to which everyone is entiltled to benefit from but was not aware like a BOGOF offer in a supermarket

I don't wont to start a whole new thread on any moral issues about what people are doing but remember several times in the past that companies have complained that the forum is abusing special offers or free samples.

Eg. People would order anything just because it was free - causing problems for smaller companies that couldn't offord to send drain pipe samples to everyone even though they had no use for the samples - the samples were really meant for real tradesmen.

Special web order codes (like the one for the free BT headset which was only meant for people who had purchased specific products) were posted

I stand to be corrected but the moderaters have reminded people that we shouldn't need to resort to any tricks (or all the more so pretending to be a company director ) to gain any of the special offers on the site

This is just my opinion everyone else is obviously free to do as they think most correct.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

Hi I wonder if anyone could help please.I set up an account online and then phoned Viking Direct up quoting my account number. The guy said that I had to place orders only online on the web so I asked to open an account over the phone but he said no it wasn't possible. What do you suggest I do?Should I cancel my online account and phone them up to set one on the phone?please help

    Thanks

Hi lucylou.Hubby and I have on-line accounts. When I phoned Viking I told the operator that I wanted to make an order but the website wouldn't accept the order code, she asked what the code was and I told her the paper code and she said thats a phone order code only.I then asked if I could make the order on the phone with her and she said no probs.Took my account number and made the order for me.
Keep trying....it seems lots of people are getting different answers from different operators.

I ordered a CD storage thingy for about £4.50 last week to get the CD player (needed the storage cube anyway).

Arrived this morning, wasn't quite what I wanted so I rang up and requested a collection. They said that as it was under a fiver, it wasn't worth collecting - "please keep it and we'll credit back your card"!

Result = one free CD player, one free CD storage cube!!

Might be worth a try if you're feeling cheeky...

EDIT: They've just twigged and rung me up...!

No good for me. Opened an account. Order for paper at 9p has to be second order. No amount of persuasion would change her mind. But by golly she remained very polite. She told me some naughty person had put the cose on the internet and a 'few orders' had gone out!!

    Made my excuses and left.
  • I managed to get a free CD player with an internet order. Here's what I did:

    1) Go to the business side of the web site and set up a new account. I have a business, but I said it was a home business

    2) I ordered compatible inkjet printer cartridges for my printer ( 2 colour, 2 black)

    3) With the cartridges I got 2 FREE 50 sheet packs of A4 photo paper

    4) I found a link to the CD player and added that to my basket too...

    http://www.viking-direct.co.uk/CATALOGSKU.ASPX?ID=PRHIFI&PR=Y29&IREF1=DEFAULT3&BRMD=Business

    5) Completed order, all arrived next day -CD player is excellent. Free photo paper is great too.

The shortbread offer is no secret - it is advertised on the site, but it wouldn't let me have that as well as the CD player. I don't know if I got the CD player because the inkjet cartridges came to more than £50 or not.

In the box that arrived is a paper advertising the 9p per ream paper deal. It is definitely listed as a second order deal.
