^does it need to be placed in water in the microwave? thanks. the reason i ask is, i once microwaved it straight from the freezer as is (for about 40 secs), and it was all dry and shriveled (like a crisp leaf). needless to say, it was inedible.

I didn't put any water in but covered it with clingfilm to allow the frozen water to stay put.

Steam for about 8 minutes, whizz with some riccota cheese or creme freche and a couple of cloves of garlic. Add to pasta with some toasted pine nuts (and some spicy sausage if you like meat.)
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
  • Hi there ... for anyone watching the butter / cheese / saturated fat intake then the best way (I think anyway ) to spruce up cabbage is to wilt it (fresh) in a pan with a splash or olive oil, pinch of black pepper and a splurge or two of Tabasco or a pinch of chilli powder.

Or add it to vegetable mash, cauliflower mash is particularly good with some spinach, a big dollop of horseradish or grainy mustard and some olive oil spread instead of butter.

    happy spinaching! x Claire

  • ps - the tabasco, pepper and olive oil thing works well to give cabbage a bit of chutzpah too x Claire

  • I had spinach soup for lunch. Finely chop an onion and fry gently for about 5 mins in a little butter. Add diced potatos and cook for another 10 mins or so. Then add stock and the spinach and cook till potatos are soft. Whizz up.

Sorry for no weights etc, I tend to play it by ear but usually use about 1l stock...

Hi, hope this is in the right place!

My son loves spinach leaves, so I buy a bag every week, however even if he has a pile of leaves every day with a meal, I am still left with loads in the bag that I have to chuck in the compost bin!!

Has anyone got any interesting ideas for the rest? maybe a recipe for spinach and 'something else' soup, any ideas?

    Thanks!

have you done spinach & cheese pasties/ crowns?

I usually get puff pastry, roll it out, cut into squares mix in some lightly wilted spinach with some cheese ( feta is good, bit of cottage, bit of cheddar etc) blob some in the mix n the middle f the pastry squares- cook in the oven they rise into crowns- good with jacket pots etc. Alternatively, fold the pastry for pasties! ( good for lunchboxes)

Spinach & potato curry also really nice and freezes really well.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
