As I was passing Sainsburys anyway I popped in and bought 8 bottles of Cravendale milk on 2 for £2 as I dont know when the offer ends - all safely nestled in my freezer now.

How big are your freezers. We have 2 freezers (fridge freezer and an under the counter one in the garage) but with all the bulk cooking, buying in advance and pureeing for DS there's no way we have enough room to put milk in the freezer, however cheap it is!!

    Hi everyone :hello:

PPS I bought a muffin tray today - anyone got any good recipes?

I have a basic recipe which I adapt - sorry about the mix of new and old fashioned measures - it is just how I know it!

    275g plain flour
    2 teaspns baking powder
    100g sugar

Mix these together, then for the 'wet' ingredients:

8 fl oz milk or fruit juice
3 fl oz veg oil or melted butter
    1 egg

    mix these too.

For flavour add 100 g chopped chocolate to dry mix and some vanilla to wet, or 2 mashed bananas to wet, or a couple of handfuls of raisins - chopped apple, ciannamon - the possibilities are endless and I think you can tell I have a bit of a casual attitude - whatever is in the cupboard! Some oatmeal into the dry and honey into the wet, with more honey drizzled on the muffins when they come out of the oven - mmmmme - and fairly healthy too! (It's OATS! Has to be healthy! )

Finally mix the wet into the dry - you should't over-stir - just mix till there is no more dry flour. It should be a lumpy-ish batter (depending on what you've put in!). Scrape into 12 muffin cases in a tray and bake for 20 mins ish at 200.

This is just my second month on the GC - came in under budget for March and so reduced my Budget for April. Should be able to do it as we are off home to Bonnie Scotland next week in the School Hols and also still got a lot in Freezers and Cupboards. Thanks MRSMC for putting me on the list with new total for this month and keeping us all in check:T

Thanks savingfor travel for the Glamorgan Sausages recipe, I have cut and pasted that into a Word Doc so that I can keep all the recipes together. They look really yummy.

Thanks JayneC for all your posts, I noticed that you live in Scarborough so I have been reminiscing about Holidays we used to have there as kids and when you mentioned York I had a flash back of walking down the Shambles. I so wish I lived near the Coast as I love the Sea, just walking along the beach no matter what the weather is like is soooooooo relaxing - I'm going off track here now so must pinch myself and get back to real life.;)

Spent quite a bit of this month's budget already but I know I can do it. Also spent yesterday in the Greenhouse planting up seeds:- Carrots, Cabbage, Cucumber, Spring Onions, Lettuce, Onions, Beetroot, Sweet Peppers, Pumpkin, Parsnip, Peas, Tomatoes so shall be making some savings later in the year when/if they grow. Joined Freecycle a few weeks ago so any spare plants can be given away or swapped for something else. Also got some Seed Potatoes which I shall be hoping to plant out at the weekend, never grown them before but one of the Mum's at the School her OH has an allotment so been getting loads of tips to pass on and it sounds quite easy.;)

Think I've typed enough now, don't want to clog this up too much as I can't believe we are on page 27 already but I guess we all have such good ideas/recipes and tips to pass on and we must keep each other motivated.:T
    "WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"
GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

I get paid on the 15th of the month but I really need to get a grip on my finances so am going to set myself a target spend for April even though it doesn't match up to my paydate. I can only afford to spend £100, which has to include all food and household stuff (dishwasher tablets, salt etc). Goodness only knows how I'm going to manage it :-(

    Afternoon all :D

Been and done some shopping...well went for a walk for some exercise and ended up picking up a few bits :p ....

spotted some fresh dough -now i know i normally make my own, but this was whoopsed to 20c  and was ready rolled.... stood there 5mins trying to decide what i would use it for...before throwing all 4 packs in my trolley :rotfl: Got home and turned 1 pack into marmite n cheese twists for hubby ...will find out if he likes the when he gets home :p the other 3 are wedged in the freezer...
also picked up 2 packs of fresh ready rolled puff pastry whoopsed to 20c :j those have been turned into 8 chicken, bacon n veg pasties -using up some leftover chicken, a pack of those little bacon lardons chopped leeks, carrot and potato and by removing a bottle of milk and the ice cubes i have just got them in the freezer..have frozen them raw though so we can just whack them in the oven ;)
other than that i just picked up a box of frozen chopped spinach as i want to have a go at a recipe i have for spinach and parmesan bread
    So i have spent a total of €2.19 :D

right I will get off and trundle through some more recipes and see what catches my eye...

hope everyone is having a good day :D

Gosh so many pages already. I really lost the plot last month, so this month I am hoping to improve. I really havent been following my menu plans. I have a tesco order coming today as all but one draw in my freezer is empty. Its only a fridge freezer, so it doesnt hold a lot. But I must try and sort things out. I will keep my challenge to £290 as march is a long month. there are 4 adults and 2 babies. I have been buying baby things in that challenge. So now I am going to try and get the babies mothers to use thier money for the things that the babies need. (Wish me luck there!). Got to go now, I have to go to my torture (oops I mean my Physio therapy!).
Then it looks like I will have a lot of reading to do tomorrow. Doubt will get back on to the computer tonight.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

Please put me down for £220 again this month. Although I failed so badly for March I'm determined it won't happen again. My birthday was yesterday so I have some gifts that will help a bit.
