This is my first attempt to post a message on any site so hopefully this will work. Me and the chaps at work (fire station) club together to run a catering club and take turns to get the provisions in. When it came to my turn I approached our local butcher whose products I knew to be excellent quality but way dearer than the supermarkets, I explained I would be buying in bulk and he gave me prices that I believe to be cheaper than supermarkets, £7ish for 2.27kg of decent bacon for example. I now order all my meat from him for work, home and friends to ensure my orders stay large enough to keep him happy and we all eat better, cheaper meat. A bit of an effort but worth it I think.
What a great first post.:money:
thank you, that is a great idea for those who may need to order in bulk for meat, or who could club together.

Hello there fellow grocery challengers,:D
A few peeps last month were asking about my budget and how we manage for meat, fruit and veg etc on it. Didn't want to expand on that at length here, cos folk don't want the thread to become too unwieldy!
So in case anyone's interested, I'm doing a little diary/blog of whether me and Mr Weezl can eat healthily for £40 a month. It's here.
So now I can stay 'on topic' here!;)

well i've just cooked a gammon joint i've had in the freezer since xmas, and sliced it all up to go in the freezer, but.........i think i may have done something a bit silly  i threw away the stock from the gammon!!
i didn't think there would be any use for it, but as soon as i saw it disappearing down the plughole, i thought " i shouldn't have done that!"
COULD i have used it to make anything else or am i taking my moneysaving a little bit too far??0 -
BTW my £129 also includes a 21mg Niquitin BOGOF for £18. I noticed that the 14mg in Boots was £15.99 per pack so a decent saving there. I've just got to give up the fags so as to be able to keep the house warm.
Love the FM
Hi Mike
just wanted to wish you luck giving up the dreaded weed (I notice you snuck that in a bit quietly!) I know a couple of other people on here are trying to give up this month, so good luck to them too!:T :T :T :T :T .
I know how hard it is (gave up myself just 12 months ago after 40 years   ) so I will be rooting for you all the way!

Oh mandy, not to worry. (You could have used it as a base for pea and ham soup, but never mind).
you'll no doubt remember next time0 -

Sounds fair to me.
Since starting this challenge I have bought 2 x 25kg sacks of potatoes, the first cost £6 and the 2nd £8 from the local market. I think his price varies week to week, depending on the type available. The 2nd lot lasted better and were definitely a superior potato - loved the taste - but they didn't crisp up very much as roast potatoes - best ever jackets though.
