I think I,ve gone a bit wild. After spending nothing yesterday I spent £24.70 today in Tesco and Aldi. Having said that (here I go again). I did take back the skirt (£15) that I did not need, and spent £14.95 in Tesco, does anyone include hair dye ect. in their grocery spend, cos £8.00 went on this, I just can't afford the £60 odd in the hairdressers every 6 weeks. The total bill was £31.08 but used another £13.50 in coupons. I,m juggling like mad here aint I. Had to buy lightbulbs too, absolutely had to. In Aldi I bought a craft knife set at £4.99 and Strawberry plants at £2.99 for 6 plants, so I wont be spending on these during the summer I hope. So 8+5+1.25 (for light) makes £14.25 I dont feel should be counted. I think it,s fair to say I spent £9.80. Is that fair?

    Hi all,

I've been really bad today, went carbooting this morning but it was cancelled due to waterlogged field so to compensate DS for getting him up at stupid o'clock for nothing I took him for bacon butties at cafe on seafront - which was nice but cost £2.80!! ( I didn't buy tea and juice tho cos I'd packed some for carboot and we had that:D ) and then managed to get talked into getting ice cream from the van when it came round this afternoon - £3!! It will have to come from grocery budget cos I don't have another budget to hijack! I just kept thinking ' i could've bought a tub of carte d'or for less than that!!' Will have to have a go at making my own ice-cream.

Have done some baking this afternoon - hobnobs, brownies and bread n butter pudding (to use up the not cross buns that i made in BM but were horrid). And made HM cornish pasties for tea for first time which were thumbs up all round so will be doing that again (DD3's comment was 'they're alright actually' I'm accepting that as a compliment;))

Not been actual shopping today even tho we needed milk. I did ask someone to go but everybody was far too busy:rolleyes: , so we've had to resort to the longlife milk. Will nip to sainsbury's tomorrow to get the Cravendale offer.

To everybody who doesn't like the cheapo t-bags. At Savers near me they have 300 typhoo t-bags for £2.50 and a few places have Tetley for 100 for £1 or 99p, inc the Poundshop, the Weigh-in shop(where they sell everything loose in tubs) and for those in Yorkshire, Boyes.

  • Hi. This is my first post here.
I popped into our local Aldi today to take advantage of the 49p offers on fruit. 6 red aples 49p 500g seedless grapes 49p, 500g salad potatoes 49p
It was a pretty good saving compared with our normal shop at the local Tesco the quality was pretty good too.
What struck me even more was the skimmed milk prices, 1 litre at 44p, its 62 in Tescos.

    5kg spuds 1.79

Bread (and I know my bread as I used to be a baker) 69 p: I'm used to paying at least 80p.

Impressed with the carrier bag policy too; fortunately I had two collapsible crates in the car
Needless to say,I'm not employed by them, however, will certainly use them for stocking up of staple goods more often.

    2 x pork mince (500gr)
4 x food containers chicken soup

  • Not sure if this is a silly question or not!!!
Does padding out mince with porriage oats work ok if you are cooking mince in a slow cooker? How much would people recommend to put in with 1 lb mince(already got swede and carrot added to make it more filling)
    Thanks

    I shouldn't see why it wouldn't work?
Just make sure there's enough liquid in there and keep stirring because porridge can go stodgy so might in the sc?

The bread and milk from the corner shop cost £3 apparently. Sig updated.

How does this work weezl74? Do I need to take a print out of the mysupermarket page to Asda to do this?

:rotfl:Nope, nothing so technical, sorry, I think I said it in a confusing way, I just meant that it's now at 36p for 1.5kg smartprice plain flour at asda in Cardiff bay, so I'd expect it'll happen soon near you.

I keep reading all these posts about the seeds you've all sown and I'm feeling very behind now. :o Only got my tomatoes, cucumbers and basil on the go so far. Must catch up quickly before I'm left 'vegless' all summer.

Had to add another £9.34 to my total spent as a trip to Farmfoods and Home Bargains were necessary.

Farmfoods had Jacobs 'biscuits for cheese' boxes reduced to 39p from xmas but the BB date isn't up until end of July. They are lovely, too so well worth the money. I had to stock up as cheese and crackers is our little treat. :D

Has anyone seen signs of the pasta coming back down in price?
I've been buying the 19p penne from Nettos as everywhere else seems to have sky rocketed. Just fancy a different shape. :o
