I've just done a fish pie too! :rotfl:

A HUGE one, about seven or eight portions I reckon (one for me and the rest for the freezer).

All using frozen stuff I already had, except some parsley I got yellow-stickered yesterday.

Not sure where you do your shopping but Morrisons had ready made pastry on BOGOF when I went on friday.

Think it was the ready rolled stuff.;)

First spend of the month in MrT today. Total £36.63. We have just done a meal plan for the next 2 weeks, to use up lots of the stuff in the freezer. We will just have to buy f&v and dairy. I will be very interested, how this month will go.

PS: I am searching for MRSMC colslaw, but can't find it. Any help pretty pleeeeasse!

Hi everyone and welcome to all the newbies. Have just spent a happy hour or two catching up with all the posts! I have started my April budget and although I have spent nearly a third already it was because I did a bigger than usual shop to stock up on household items and toiletries as well as meat and fish for the freezer. Hopefully, I will only need to get fresh fruit and veg and milk in the next couple of weeks. Also as DD1
came home after three weeks away in Syria and I wanted to spoil her a bit I bought extras like fancy cheese, and bacon for sarnies at lunch time.

Have had a busy Saturday cooking; I made bread and those ‘Healthy’ chewy seed bars some one (sorry I forget who) posted in March. OMG they were fantastic! I made 20 big bars (could probably have divided in to smaller pieces) and have frozen them. I will take out one each day for my packed lunch. I also made a batch of hob-nobs which are delish too, and fruit salad for dessert yesterday.

Today we took a friend out for lunch as a surprise for her birthday – imagine my embarrassment as I discovered that I had got the date wrong – her birthday is not until 20th April! Never mind we had a lovely lunch and I didn’t have to cook it!

Well better get off the pc now. I spend most of my working day on the computer so don’t want to get square eyes at the weekend too! Have a good week everyone and good luck with your targets.

    Love Moniker
  • I would also like to join this month. I am in for £250. There is me, ds1 and ds2.
I am going to try and only spend £50 per week. I have also decided to try and not enter into the world of Tesco's for a whole month. It will be aldi, lidil and the local markets for me. I think I will take it 1 week at a time otherwise I will lose my way quite quickly.

Tomorrow will be my first shopping day and for this weeks meal plan.

    Here goes.....
    Smile loan - £2821.98 / £0:)
    Lloyds CC - £3102.54 / £3071.51
    B'Card - £7615.65 / £7444.30
    Bank of mom - £6000 / £6000
    28/02/17 £ 19,540.17 / £16515.81 05/04/17

    Hi Egon

    The coleslaw is:-
    • shredded white cabbage
    • finely sliced onion
    • grated carrots
    • seasoning
    • and equal quantities of Greek yogurt and mayonnaise -how much depends on hop "sloppy" you like it ;)
    • oh and a squeeze of lemon if you like it :D
Mix it all together and stick it in the fridge..it keeps for quite a few days...but you may need to add more mayo/yog... to loosen it up again -or more lemon juice :D
Its also nice done with red cabbage and onions too :D

Whilst i think about it -would you have a tried recipe for Krautsalat (sp?) :D only I adore it... i know it has green peppers in there, white cabbage.. but i would love and old recipe if you have one....
I could quite happily eat a bowl of that as a meal :o

    Hi there

Can another newbie join in you challenge. this month I have a strict budget of £70 for food for one. After reading some of this thread am amazed at what some of you can do on this. But.........as this is my first attempt and I normally just walk around supermarkets chucking things in trolley without ever checking prices . I rather think I am going to find this an intresting challenge :o.
    The cunning plan is;
I am now the proud new owner of a months worth of lunch and dinners menus and a choice of a few diffrent breakfasts. Which I will tick off when I have used (this works best for me as am a shift worker), and a shopping list which for some reason took me ages to do!
Also plan to use up items in my cupboards and freezer. Oh and use my shiny new slow cooker, off to read thread now and hopefully learn how to save more money
