This was my first month and have spent £174.39 I really need to get this down to £150 a month so don't have to go back to work at end of maternity leave :-) Hoping May will be chance to do this as have lots of meat in freezer waiting to be cooked up (very good deal from local butcher on mince so stocked up). Just wanted to say thank you to everyone , although this is onlt my 2nd post I have been reading everyones posts and getting some great tips. I have planned meals for May in hope that this will keep costs down-no more panic buying for me :-)(Family of 5: 2 adults & 3 children aged 7yrs, 4yrs, and 18months)0

Hey Guys....a quick 'thing' I did last summer.
Cut rhubarb into small chunks & 'stew' in enough water to prevent burning.
Allow to cool slightly, then add cubed strawberries/ tin strawbs in fruit juice.
Mix well together & allow to cool completely.
Spoon into meringue nests, dribble over 'sauce' & serve with cream/ice cream.
The sweetness of the strawberries & meringue was enough for us, but of course you might want to add sugar to the cooking rhubarb. Hope you enjoy it:DFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Right - must stop lurking on here - get a nap (see earlier post!) and then head to the kitchen - need to replenish my supply of bread sticks - nom nom, might make some muffins as my sweet tooth has awoken!
In the sunday telegraph mag today they have a recipe for chapatis I might try as well, here it is:
knead together 2 cups (500ml) of wholemeal or chapati flour (atta) with 1/2 tsp salt and about 2/3 cup (165ml) lukewarm water. After half and hour of resting, covered with a damp cloth, the dough is ready to use. You knead small pieces and roll them into thin circles. Cook them one at a time in a hot, lightly oiled pan until bubbles form; flip and cook for a minute more.
If anyone else trys them before me, let me know how you get on!0 -

Was just wondering being a newbie do all these lovely recipes you mention appear in one place somewhere or is it a case of needing to cut and paste the ones I fancy trying as they are posted. I have noted down a few.
Hi,
Some of the recipes that appear on here are listed in the indexed collections which are usually found at the top of the forum page.
Personally i find it easier to copy and paste them into a word document as i go along then i think its easier to find.;)'Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle'0 -
Tried to not spend for next week but OH decided he needed a few things. Result-overspend of £30, thats a £40 over budget this month:eek: . I really need to get a hang of this budgetting. OH says its ok because it's a 5 week month. Mind we did buy lots of bread reduced by 40p.
Have sewn lots of seeds today, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, mange tout, so hopefully will have a slightly cheaper summer if they all grow.January spend = £100
