    Mortgage-free Glee!
Just going to start some spaghetti bolognaise off for tonight. I don't have any mushrooms, but have peppers and courgettes so that will do. Will brown it off first, then put in the SC and leave to cook until tonight.

    Still not been shopping!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

Oh dear, just done a tally up and I now over budget ...

Still have the other half of the month to get through.

I have bought £10 worth of baby wipes, as they had them on special at Asda (we don't go there often) and I could go through my receipt and subtract a few things are aren't grocery but there isn't really any other budget for them to come out of, so what is the point.

I will continue with my meal plan for the rest of the month, and just try and do as little damage as I can.

I can't believe that prices have gone up that much in just a month ?????

Well I'm already over this month, but I don't have any money in the coffers to go and buy anything else anyway! The bank has charged us heavily for going over our overdraft so I'm going to have to put in the Child Benefit for a few weeks to try and give us a bit of a buffer in the bank account. We've got quite a bit in the cupboards and freezer. I think next month I'm going to have to try for £350. £300 is proving to be impossible and with food prices rising it's never going to happen!
  • Hi everyone!
Its been a beautiful day, just right for all those green fingered amongst us.

MRS MCAWBER-Thanks for your reply earlier.

Egon-Excellent. OB will be delighted to know how he can eat the contents of the jar, as it smells delicious. He loves anything he can spread on crusty wholemeal bread .... Hope your little ones feel better soon.

Keep up the good work everyone!!!!

  • Afternoon all :)

Hope your kiddies get well soon Egon :)

Nipped to Asda today for my mam and ended up getting a few bits (when do i not lol). They had big tubs of Utterly Butterly for £1 so i got a few for the freezer, Asda's pure orange juice 4pk down to £2 from £2.98 (dont know if it was an offer or rollback) so i got 2 pks as it works out cheaper per carton than the SP orange. Also 4 pints of milk and some freezer bags. Total £8.50 but the orange juice will last the month and the butter for ages :)

My gran gave me another carrier bag full yesterday bless her, red onions, peppers, courgette, carrots and 1/2 dozen eggs. I used most of the veg last night to make a big pan of chickpea curry and whats left will be made into a frittata with the eggs - waste not, want not lol.

Just want to thank whoever posted the link to 'love food hate waste' site (sorry can't remember who it was) some great ideas on there - many thanks

    Take care all

Can you re arrange your overdraft temporarily as that would make the charges less. If you know your going to go above, sometimes they will do that for you. Have you challenged the charges? some times if you ask them they will waiver some of them? I had to do that a few years ago, with Lloyds TSB. I challenged all the charges and they did reduce some of them for me. Cant say that they definitely will but its worth asking. The worst they can do is say no.

It was me:D thanks, I think it is brilliant, so far from there so as not to waste the bananas have made the banana pancakes, a banana cake which my little one loves, had the idea today not to throw the growing a second skin bread out and cook bread and butter pudding instead so yes it really is a great site and the thing is you paid and bought the food to throw it away is like putting your own money in the rubbish bin and why would you want to do that?:D

It is refreshing in a way to read this as I am sure I am on around the prices you are saying but others are on so much less that it makes me wonder if I am doing it wrong and I worry, I reckon (I have only just started so have no concrete proof) that my food bill is £100 a week so £400 a month but i am going to bring it down each month, next aiming for £300, don't know if I can manage it but that is the whole point of the GC:D

Hi Savvymummy - let me know how you go on...I'd be really interested to see if it makes any difference. GOOD LUCK!
Hi there everyone, just a quick update. Yet another NSD today(4 in a row), but will def have to get fruit tomorrow, so may try Aldi for first time and compare prices.

Had a great day today with kiddiewinks, as sun was out we went to castle and grounds(about 40min drive) and didn`t have to pay to get into either castle or grounds,as I brought tickets last year and they are valid for a whole year, so saved a big £33(this years price) So no need to touch my budget(this is meant for monthly outings/clothes etc)Took a packed lunch of sandwiches with HM bread, cooked sausages, HM chocie biscuits for DS2, HM hobnobs for me and DS1, HM plain yoghurt with pineapple chunks/grapes, and lots of fruit.

HM hobnobs delish, thanks to twinks. When I made these the first time I did make them alittle thick and they were nice and soft in the middle, but I now roll these out quite thinly and they come out lovely and crunchie(and you get a lot more for your moneys worth). I did freeze the last batch (uncooked) and baked these early this morning before our outing and they were really lovely.

Hi Bobbykins, I will let you know how the bread has lasted later tomorrow. I did change my usual recipe, to a delia recipe, says put 10g of fat, but put in about 30g. I will report back sooon
