    Hi everyone.
Been reading your posts with interest. Keep up the good work!!!

    Question for MRS MCAWBER/Egon
I brought back a jar of something interesting from my recent break in Germany:
    Fruchtaufstrich Moselriesling-verfeinert mit weiswein
I thought it was a type of marmalade and having googled the words found it to be apple spread with white wine but what do I do with it?
    Any ideas??????????????
    Many Thanks
    SFT

    Savingfortravel,

Fruchtaufstrich is for eating on your bread. I am not sure which type it is. Most of the alcoholic once are like jelly. It is the consistency of redcurrant jelly, and yes, my little one likes it on his toast etc.
Your is a posh version. :D

    HTH

Morning - easy tea here tonight - option of veg + pasta or spag bol. Last night I sweated a sliced leek and ribbons of half a courgette, added a good handful of chopped sprouting brocolli and then cheated and stirred in a tub of Dolmio sauce which has been lurking in the fridge. Added a splash of white wine. Served with spaghetti. It was fab. Doing something similar tonight but with soft cheese or creme fraiche (sp?) instead of the Dolmio. I can't believe how many meals we are getting from our £9.99 veggie box. It will be a week tomorrow since it came and we still have quite a bit left. It certainly makes me eat more vegetables.
I bought a loaf of bread at the Bakers Oven yesterday and asked for it to be sliced thick- they used to have a machine which made medium sliced really really thin, so i always asked for thick. Well, they must have a new machine because this bread has T H I C K slicesspeechless-smiley-040.gif

Meat balls with red pepper sauce for us tonight. Only have to buy eggs for it. (we always seem to be running out of eggs lately! )

We are now on the damage limitation wagon. I used to blame hubby for the overspend, but I think, it is actually me. There isn't even much to show for it. No sweets etc. (ok, very rarely :o ).

Both kids are ill and eating next to nothing. DS2 (9mth) refuses all food and milk. Just trying to keep him hydrated (sp?)!
DS1 (2y9mth) isn't eating well, the average of a sandwhich a day....

Never mind, off to playgroup to keep sanity.

I'm under budget at the moment but will be stocking up on flour later today in Sainsburys because of what Asda has done to their flour prices. I'm not sure whether to go over by a few £ this month to benefit the next month or so saving 25p on each bag of flour? Or to take the money out of my own 'pocket' money? Hm.

My second attempt at the giant jaffa cake was only a smidge better than the first, even tho I'd spread marmalade on the sponge & let the jelly get cold... what I'm doing wrong:o Did remind me of why I don't make flans tho;)

I am sooooo up for clearing my freezers.I have a little table top one that sits on top of my fridge freezer that desperately needs to be thawed out, but like the rest of yooze guys, it keeps filling up all by itself--no help from me-:A -Honest Guv!!! Wish I could say the same about me purse:(

Searching-Me, we use salt water for everything where you would use That Chemical Product---gargle; eye wash; cleaning cuts & grazes; bathing---just boiled water with a bit of salt & allow to cool to a user-friendly temperature. Also make our own version of 'poorly peeps potion' that uses your favourite diluting squash I]I keep a blackcurrant hi-juice in for this, for supposed extra vitC, but any will do[/IMake up squash in a mug with boiling water, stir in a spoonful of honey & a few squeezes of lemon juice. If you make up the squash with the hot water & stir in some powdered glucoseI]available from chemists[/I & allow to cool, you also have a version of a well-known orange coloured 'energy' type drink. There's always sticking your head under a towel while inhaling menthol steam...again the menthol, eucalyptus etc are available from chemists & a fraction of commercial 'inhalents'. HTH & get well soon:p

Could I suggest you check out the Celebrations & Special Occasions forums--particularly for ideas for making up Hampers. Also an excellent thread called 'How Can I Make This' where lots of clever people have found ways of taking seemingly ordinary items & creating something quite beautiful to give as gifts. I'm about to attempt making a 'sock bouquet' for my sister----I kid you not! Have a peek in there & see if anything appeals..

For freezing, there's also a thread somewhere that gives very good tips on containers. One thing I've copied from there, is to line your chosen container with--eg--a freezer bag before putting stuff in. Then you freeze it, but you should be able to lift out the bag of stuff, now frozen in a sensible shape, & have your container free for another time. For example, Sunday lunch left-overs.....line a tub ready for gravy, freeze it, then take out the square-shaped bag of frozen gravy to store back in your freezer & release the tub for Monday's spag bol sauce.......Does that make sense, cuz I know what I'm trying to explain but can't always relay that on to other folk....

Hi all, reporting in with a NSD yesterday and hoping for another one today too.
I`ve got to go to the 25th and have only £1.13 left  so i can`t see that happening can you?:D
I will need lentils and milk before then at least, i borrowed £15 out of the GC money earlier in the month and i was hoping to ignore it and not have to put it back but i will probably have to find it from somewhere so that i can come in under budget.
Has anyone noticed that Doves wholemeal flour is still showing up at 55p at Asda when all the others have gone up including the doves white?

One day I might actually get round to following Mrs Mc's bagels but need to shift the hormonal 1/2 stone.
Anyone else find they put on that much when they're due on? I only noticed because it was making my hips, knees and ankles hurt each month cause I was too heavy for what I'm used to. So I started to keep track each month.
(SOOOOOOO off topic I know- sorry!)

I thought it was only me that could hit half a stone at totm and that i was weird in some way lol, horrible isn`t it, it varys massively from one month to the next.
Off to look in the freezer for inspiration.
    Good luck all

The oat biscuits were so popular some other kids were brought in to test them and loved them too:D making some more today due to demand:D am also going to do the oats in the mince for the spag bog but how much do I add?

NSD today, still hoping for a freezer (comet could not replace the 10 week old one we bought from them) waiting for the money to clear in the account from the refund, so hard to cook without a freezer:rolleyes:
