will update sig in a mo and read the rest of yesterdays and todays thread.
spent a total of £22.35 today.
£8 on sack of 25kg pots:eek:, £6.75 on meat and £7.60 down the market on bread and fruit.
A bit shocked at price of spuds, but suppose wanted to support local grocers and didn`t want to trawl around just to check out prices for spuds, but will now keep my eyes peeled for farmshops and laybys for prices.
Just wondering how much other people pay for a 25kg of pots and where they get them from?.
OH NO, just remembered i`ve forgotten eggs. Oh well, maybe go to mrTs tonight and get some and check out the whoopsies aswell. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

I paid €7.99 for a 10k bag of potatoes this morning...around £6.00.
Really only went to Tesco for the spuds but spent €30.45 in all...means I don't have to spend anything else for at least a week.... but only €55.22 left...€1.99 of that was on crisps so will recoup that from OH during this week or next if I need milk.

Hi all
Went and did my last weekly shop of my months GC yesterday and i am over the moon that i am on target to come in on, or if i'm really lucky, just under budget :j I spent £59.33 this week and so have £10.26 to do me the next 6 days until friday. I should only need milk and bread so fingers crossed
Each week i have spent less and less and by planning my meals and sticking to them it has really worked! :T I absolutely cant remember the last time i spent less than £300 on groceries, usually i would spend £400+ and have to chuck loads out that i hadnt used.
We cut back on the take aways to one a month as that definately wasnt helping the budget. I think someone mentioned a few posts back that one take away or meal out can cost near a weeks shopping, i agree with that! I tend to plan a 'nicer' meal for saturday nights such as fahitas, pizza or curry and stick to mince, rice or pasta through the week.
Off to Mums for sunday dinner, cant waitShe spent £27  on a huge bit of roast beef. My OH said she musta got a whole cow for that price :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Have a good week everybody and keep going with your GC
Fi xMay GC Budget £200 spent
Apr GC Budget £225 spent £258.32 Mar GC Budget £200 Spent £206.31
Feb GC Budget £175 spent £210.23 Jan GC Budget £200 Spent £178.91

well i've just had my first go at making tortillas, but the ''dough'' was really wet, so i had to add quite a bit more flour, so i hope they work!
i've left them sat on a plate in the kitchen to do for tonight's tea....i'm looking forward to them, but i'm terrified they won't work!!
i got my last few bits of the week this morning....toilet rolls & tissues in B&M cos they're the cheapest i've ever found them, some fruit teabags for myself oooh and a little mini greenhouse for my cucmbers and tomatoes when they're ready to go out! it was only 9.99 in B&M but it has to come out of my grocery budget cos i don't have budgets for anything else!!
picking my new glasses up tomorrow from Specsavers as well :j can't wait!! they didn't cost me anything cos i'm on benefits, so they're not from the designer range or anything, but it's still exciting ...... what a sad life i lead eh? :rotfl:0 -

Last night we had another spaghetti bolognaise (same batch - defrosted) and OH said, 'this one's really nice, it's got a great texture' - I said it was probably where it had been frozen and improved with age - perhaps it was, but I won't be mentioning my new ingredient.

This worked really well as 400g mince bulked out with handful of lentils and handful oats did all 4 of us plus extra for 2 lunches where as this would have normally only just done the 4 of us.
He knows I put lentils in things but didn't know about the oats I did tell him in the end and he said go for it.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

I don't think it's sad at all Mandy-Moo, but then I am biased:p I've ordered some Antony Worrel Thompson pans from one of the shopping channels, & woke this morning thinking I'll finally be able to have a go at MrsMc's tortillas:D Don't know what I do to my fry pans, but they never stay non-stick past the first two uses:o
On the BOGOF debate, I count them into that particular month's total, cuz I figure that there will be another one next month to compensate IYSWIM.....like this time I've got Andrex loo rolls, 2-4-£5:50 so will stock up till the offer ends SIZE=1]or I run out of money[/SIZEthen the money I don't need to spend on them next month will cover any bargains that might be around.Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

I don't mind tap water if it's mixed with something or boiled (as long as the water hasn't been sitting in the kettle for ages). I may look into buying the filters again for drinking water, thank you for giving me a virtual kick up the bum :rotfl: . I know you can now recycle the old filters in Argos so I that's a good incentive. Hubby had some tap water when he woke up during the night which had been in his glass for 2 nights... made him nearly gag!!
I've just updated my sig with this weeks shopping (including 6 bottles of water  ) and it came to £85.07. This will definitely last us this week and hopefully next week as it includes a chicken for when my Dad and my "lovely" step-mother come down. This leaves me a grand total of £30.57 to last until the end of the month  - wish me luckMy self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

Brita have a freepost address which you can post the "spent" cartridges to and they will recycle them.
Thanks mama67. I spoke to hubby yesterday about getting the filters again instead of the bottles and he is all for it. I'll look on the Brita website for the address, but if I'm up the town I'll drop them into Argos. I just have to remember to change the filters regularly :rotfl: .Mortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £82,340.34 May 2037Swagbucks ~ £155 (2024 ~ £395)Surveys ~ £158.69 (2024 ~ £280.14)Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £964.62 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)0 -
Hi everyone:hello:
Just a quick update really. I had a NSD yesterday and today:j . Got a very large chicken out of freezer yesterday morning, thinking this would defrost in time for todays roast, later this afternoon, but NOOOOOOO still fozen inside. So will be having cheesy veg with pasta and cold bacon joint that I cooked yesterday.
Have baked some granary rolls and a loaf this afternoon for OH packed lunch and a choccie sponge for OH to take to work tomorrow.
I have also managed to sort out my individual budgets, by putting the rest of money needed for the rest of the month in pots(if this makes sense), so hopefully won`t be going back to cashpoint or using card until the new month.
Just a question about the HM bread, how do you keep your bread fresh for longer?. I Have to freeze what I don`t use, once I have made the packed lunches as the bread goes stale very quickly(usually within 24hrs or less). Just wondering if other people seem to experience the same problem?.Grocery Challenge 2013: July week 1 £90/£87.41
