    Bottles of water????????????
Noooooooo-that's what the tap is for! Especially when on a grocery challenge! Tests have proven that tap water is better for you and usually tastes better. Who wants to pay a fortune for a plastic bottle and have plasticy tasting water? If you just "have to", refill the bottles with tap water and take them to work-better still, take a s/steel flask of water.

This is true, but... my tap water has a funky taste to it sometimes so I can only drink it with squash or in tea. I am concerned about the number of bottles we get through, not just the amount as this is £1.99 for 6 but the sheer amount of plastic that we recycle (rumour has it that the recycled bottles all get shipped off the China for landfill  ) We do want to get a filter adaptor for the tap but at over £200 this is some way off.

I used to spend a fair bit on bottled water, but have found that my tap water is actually really nice :) (this won't be the case everywhere though!)

I still buy bottled, but a 6x2l bottle multipack costs £1.99 and will last six weeks; I open a fresh bottle on Monday, refill for the rest of the week, chuck it on Friday, then repeat with a new bottle. Still drinking 2l of plain water at my desk a day (without the bottle there as a reminder I'd 'forget' and just drink one glass a day!), only costs about 6.5p a day :D

I suppose you could keep using the same bottle for months, but I like a fresh one every week. Oh and I find myself stockpiling the empties now, so if I do buy a house I have the option of builing an ecogreenhouse lol :D

I have looked on our freecycle and even tried to join as it's a join only thread but no-one has come back to me in over a week. I wanted to look for a bread slicer.

Check if you opened a new yahoo email account when you tried to sign up. The replies will go there if you did. Did you answer any questions they asked, such as your location etc? This is the main reason for delays. 50% of applicants dont look in the right email account and never realise that the group "have" got back to them!
If this is not the cause, contact the group and ask if they received your application. the group owner address is usually at the bottom of the group homepage.Good luck in finding what you want-a lot of people do!

  • Oh one more thing! To avoid having to do "emergency shopping", always keep plenty of bread in the freezer, a packet of dried milk in the cupboard,(great for cooking anyway)and some longlife milk. The weeks that I've overspent have usually been when I went out to get a bottle of milk!
I had to do this today(as Asda werent coming until at leat 7pm) but I only bought milk and eggs-and I only took out a fiver! Hubby asked about all sorts of things but as I told him-no, I'm only going to get milk-Asda are coming tonight-you will have to wait.

I spent £19.47 this week. My freezer is still full, so hopefully next week will be about the same.

    Hi everyone :D

For some reason I am really bad at keeping up with this thread, I don't really know why as there is loads of really usefull info and some fab recipes on here! Thanks for shareing these things, guys :D

Anyway, just a quick update on my spends so far this month.

    Week one: £66.14
    Week two: £43.88

So current total (pulls up the PC calculater as very bad at maths) is £110.02.

    Off to update sig.....
  • Hi all

Sorry I haven't been around since I asked if i could join in and if anyone had a foolproof bread recipe, but my internet went funny and for some reason I haven't been able to access the site! Moved the router thing and all is now well! Wish I understood technology.....

Anyway, thanks Mrs M for the bread recipe. I'll try it later today and let you know what happens. I only have dried yeast, so I hope that won't make too much of a difference.

On the challenge front, well I've slipped a bit, but I think I can pull it back. Decided to get my on line shop delivered on Wednesday instead of Saturday because its cheaper on the delivery charges, but hadn't really got enough supplies to last between Sat and Wednesday so had to get some bits from local shop. Still, we live and learn.

To who ever asked about the Cravendale offer at Sainsbury (can't remember who it was, sorry). It was still on a couple of days ago when I went in...
