Oh I meant to ask... I have absolutely loads of tins in the cupboard that keep being put back because I don't know what to do with them, I have pinto beans, red lentil beans, kidney beans, chick peas, borlotti beans, aduki all sorts of tins of beans other than using the kidney beans for chilli, the chick peas for paella or with rice what do I do with all the rest?
Hi Victory
someone else posted a similar question on a separate thread a while back. The link is HERE.
There's a few recipes on there and I can particularly recommend the Tuscan Bean stew one that's on there - we tried it recently and it's luverly!!

Victory I made a really yummy mixed bean chilli  this week using kidney beans, baked beans, cannellini beans, chopped tomatoes, tomato puree and chilli powder. I think any beans would work well for this.
Or you could just blend the beans and add to mince meals/casseroles to help stretch them.
Applemella's Bean Burgers
you need
1 onion finely chopped
1 carrot grated
small pepper finely chopped
1 clove garlic finely chopped
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp mild chilli powder
2 x 425g tins ready cooked beans(I use kidney beans, borlotti beans or pinto beans depending on what is in cupboard)
1 tbs olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
Fry onion, pepper, carrot and garlic in olive oil until softened.
Add ground coriander and chilli powder.Stir for a minute.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Mash beans well and mix the cooked mixture in with them.
Shape into 6-8 burgers and bake at gas mark 6 on a baking tray until golden brown.

Evening everyone
Managed to save a meal as DH made some more homemade pasties with some meat left over from last time. :j We'll have tonight's planned meal tomorrow instead. (southern baked chicken from a recipe that I found on here about a week ago).
Family relations have returned to normal following DS outburst yesterday over revision! Must be something about boys because he also thinks he doesn't need to revise because he knows it already!:rotfl:
Made a double batch of hobnobs and fairy cakes. The first batch of hobnobs I put a lot less sugar in than the recipe said and they came out quite chunky and drier than normal. The ones I made with the normal recipe have the same texture as chewy cookies that you can buy.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Yep, taking a few days off work has worked - finally I can keep up with this thread!
Yesterday I discovered soya mince, which I have been turning my nose up at but lo and behold it turns out to be yummy! I made (veggie) shepherds pie and chilli. At my reckoning soya mince is at least 4 times cheaper than frozen veggie mince.
Today I bought some tomato plants, and also red pepper, cucumber and strawberries, and triumphantly planted them in the garden, so I am crossing my fingers for enormous yield in the summer months! I am not green fingered but I figure it is worth a go! I'm including my whole garden centre splurg in my grocery budget, but this does make it look scary - I hope the investment pays off longer term!0 -

Mine said exactly the same thing about not needing to revise until he got 19% in a recent test and a letter home from school  Slowly he is realising he doesnt really know it all!
It's good to know i'm not the only one with a hormonal teenage SON

I don't think I'm going to make it to the end of the month
.
I've tried v hard and avoided all trips to corner shop, "nipping into" supermarket after work etc but I still only have 40 quid to last another 19 days  !! I don't know if I'm going to be able to do it. I've included all food shopping plus any extra's like bottles of water etc at work but I haven't included a meal out and a chinese takeaway after a night out so I kind of feel like I've cheated a bit. V v cross with myself.
Do you think a 6 year old needs to be fed more than once every couple of days?! (before anyone calls social services, I'm joking! My 6yr old dd eats like a horse but looks like a stick insect - it's so unfair and she definitely doesn't take after me!!:rotfl: )

Im soaking pinto beans overnight(dried ones) to make chilli con carne tomorrow.
I make a vegetarian curry with lentils, chick peas-if you don't want it to be veggy just replace half of the meat wih plenty of beans.
borlotti beans again, I would either use in chilli or currry.
We are all so used to kidney beans that we "think" we ha ve to use them. Dare to be inventive!Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -

Having twice worked in a supermarket that has just 'opened', I found that no reductions were done in the first 6 weeks or so. The reason for this is that the sales forecast of the store was still developing and if they reduce stuff it messes up the 'ordering system'.
Can't tell you the amount of 'waste' there was as a result of this, but they need full shelves so that the product is there for the customer to buy until the 'system' knows how many the customer normally wants to buy, and orders accordingly.
Confusing I know, but don't hold your breath for a few weeks, and then you will find that each store will have a slightly different policy, as it all depends on the 'time' the reduction person gets going, how much discretion they have and also how generous they are too.
The people in my local stores are downright tight fisted !!!!:mad:0 -

Noooooooo-that's what the tap is for! Especially when on a grocery challenge! Tests have proven that tap water is better for you and usually tastes better. Who wants to pay a fortune for a plastic bottle and have plasticy tasting water? If you just "have to", refill the bottles with tap water and take them to work-better still, take a s/steel flask of water.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0
