  • Hi everyone

It'll be NSD grocery wise for me. I'm still sticking to my menu plan, so its hot potato salad (potato, bacon, parsley, onion, egg) for lunch, and steak with mushroom pepper sauce, coleslaw and wedges for dinner tonight.

    Cheers

Big shop in Tesco yesterday came to £28.28. But didn't really seem to come out of it with much for my money really? Also they had sold out of loads of things on my list which is really annoying as now I have to go back.

    Hiya,

Some of us on this thread have commented from time to time about our loved ones not always 'getting on board with' our OS money saving ways.

My DH fluctuates wildly on this, usually very tolerant, but sometimes feeling things are tight or austere.

So I had an idea, and thought I'd share it with any of you who'd like the tip...

Work out what you used to spend on groceries, food, not taking a packed lunch, coffees out each month. All the things you used to do. (You may have to estimate, but I went on old bank statements online). Then deduct what you spend now from that amount. i.e we used to spend £400 a month on food, now it's £40, therefore a difference of £360.

Armed with this number, go to the 'demotivator tool' on the right hand side of the screen you're looking at now, you may have to scroll a bit!

Put in 'extras on food' as your thing you spend on, enter the amount difference between then and now, and click monthly.

Then, with your OH, looking at the screen with you, enter his/her annual/weekly wage.

    Then hit 'demotivate me' button

My DH seemed much more on board after reading this on the screen:
    £4,320.00 a_year_on.gif food
    and_work.gif 8.8 weeks_to_pay.gif
    over_a_working.gif £194,400.00
    think_what.gif

    Hope that helps someone!

    Weezl x

Completely cocked up my grocery spends yesterday! I did my list via mysupermarket as usual, total came to £16.19. I knew that I had forgotten to add razors at 27p (break the bank!) so not that bad. Except my mum decided she needed to "get out of the house" and came with me, and the total came to £28.66  Im not quite sure where I went wrong, will look at the receipt later   Suffice to say I shall not tell her I am shopping next time, cos I wander and then stuff migrates into the trolley (£1.50 on cream cakes, bad for purse, bad for diet).

hi , i've just got back from town. spent 8.77 in mr M, and £2 in B&M on a bacon joint. i thought it looked good value, cos its about the same size as a gammon joint which would normally be about £6-7......only thing is, what do i do with it?

can i cook it on the hob, like i would with gammon, then slice it thinly for sarnies? does it taste like gammon? have to ask cos it won't be very MS if nobody likes it!!

right i'm off to update my siggy, hope everyone's having a good day :D

    Hi everyone!
I deliberately didn't log in last night so that I could read both this and the OS recipes vs Jamie Oliver threads to the end without getting side tracked.
Is this really normal behaviour I ask myself...I felt it compulsory to add in a whoopsie walk around the Sainsbury's aisles on my home last night prior to doing my weekly shopping list and menu last night ???!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: Emerged triumphant with a box of eggs for 40p cue kedgeree next week, some high juice squash and a rather battered box of cranberry wheats. None of them look very glamorous but then I wasn't planning on eating the packaging:D I shall hit Mr T tonight to do my proper weekly shop...elbows sharpened and at the ready to beat off all other competition at the whoopsie section!

PS with all this talk of cheap recipes there was a selection from Fiona Becketts latest book Frugal Food in the Sun a few weeks ago. Link here http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/money/student/article196577.ece

Thanks for that Weezl - I tried exciting my OH with the figures but he was completely non plussed!! When I pushed him, he did say we should try to adopt some of your strategies... which I already have of course:rolleyes:...but just maybe he'll try, one of these days...

Really must add up my spends...
