billingsvc.com

Hi all,

Does anybody recognise the above? Just checked my credit card account and it's showing a transaction from Spain for 4.95 Euro (£3.85) for billingsvc.com, then a 12p foreign transaction fee!

I'm very careful with my card details, so confident it's not something I've done. A Google search returns only 3 results with 1 of them losely referring to fraud.

Any ideas?

Ed.

Sounds like a !!!!!! website or something. Just call the CC issuer and they'll refund you.

I've spoken to them and they've promised to refund the amount when my next statement posts (online that is). What worries me is how? I only use the card for fuel, online grocery shopping and Paypal.

I would advise against simply deleting svchost.exe as it's an integral part of the Windows operating system, and could leave it inoperable.

There are trojans that use svchost.exe to relay information, and also replace svchost.exe but the advice to simply delete this file is very unwise.

Had already virus checked my lappy and nothing found. How would a !!!!!! site get my card details? Checked my online account yesterday and there's now another transaction from the same billingsvc.com, but this time for 29.95 Euro (£23.49).

I would never use any cash card details online on anything but a reputable site, so at a loss as to how this could have happened.

Check your anti-virus software. I located a Trojan Horse on my computer entitled "svchost.exe". Delete this!

Dont whatever you do delete any files with the above filename, as mentioned, its an essential part of the OS, however, if you have any files called called "scvhost.exe" (notice the slightly different spelling) you should get rid of these as usually something nasty & not part of OS at all

    Thanks all,

Had looked up the svchost.exe so have discounted that as an issue.

I've now also seen the very few Google returns, that all seem to point to some dodgy websites that require a subscription with the user offering their details. I'd never, ever do something that daft.

Anyway, credit card now cancelled and replacement being issued. What really annoys me is not knowing how it's happened.

The same thing happened to me a few months ago although it was for a different payee. The card company HSBC were very good about it, although they recommended changing the card no which I did and then promptly forgot to tell Orange, so a DD was rejected! That was my fault though I suppose:o .

It stills worries me where they got my details from. Like you I'm usually very careful, one person at the bank said that it was possible they were trying random numbers, but I don't know.

It does show how important it is for all of us to check statements regularly though. So anyone who ignores cc bills or doesn't like looking at them (I'll admit I've been like that in the past- so there must be more people out there;) ) thinking that the dd will come out automatically- don't hide them away- check them.

The website is called Full Releases version 2.0. It is a bitTorrent download site, but you won't find the one you signed up to get. It does actually have usable downloads, but two or three days after you sign up for the lifetime membersip for $4.95 they take a very small "foreign charge." ($ .04) Then they take more. Mine was $29.95. I was a sucker. Lesson learned. Never ever give out information unless you know exactly who you are dealing with. There's a lot of viruses and scams on the ole world wide web. Cancel and replace those credit and bank cards.

As for eallin's situation, it sounds like someone used your credit card without your permission to subscribe to this site. The other charges are the scam.
