fiddling flower, from what you say, it may appear you are an exception, which is very strange indeed since npower publicaly claim everyone is on sculpting.

secondly, we have a right to hate npower, because they have over charged us !! they admit this too, but not liability of it, and will not refund it. As for our stance and feelings in regard to this are more than justified, considering energy watch do not agree with it, the media does not agree with it, and the indications given by ofgem do not agree with it, although we await their official statement in regard to the investigation. Energy watch feel that this issue affects 2.2 million customers, maybe you are an exception to this, but no-one understands why....

As for any comparison to the seriousness of this issue, may i remind ofwat fined a water company quite heavily for over charging, which isnt even as much as we have been over charged, and the fraud office gives verdict monday, which again is expected to be a very heavy fine again.

It is also not a fact about just switching either, even though most of us have already, along with many many thousands switching away from npower, but a fact that it may be fraud and await official information from ofgem.

Also this practice may put npower at an unfair advantage / practice against other energy suppliers, and may give false indications that they are the cheaper towards consumers. They are also voted the worst for complaints too.

This is the company you wish to get your services from....

Sorry Fiddling Petals, DirectDebacles comments were in jest and not to be taken to heart. You are obviously one of the fortunate ones, many of us have been sculpted for a long time and it is still happening. It is not so much that we object to being sculpted, but just that we have a right to be informed and we have a right to only be charged for the amount of higher units per year, as our contract states.
If you had been defrauded of hundreds of pounds, I think you would also want to be a member of the 'We Hate NPower Club!'
It is also not a matter of merely changing supplier, we have been heavily loaded on higher rate units for the last 4 months and need an opportunity to recoup our losses for this year. It is all too easy to just walk away, but who will win then???
The Times suggest that perhaps over £50 million has been unlawfully overcharged, plus Ofgem are investigating this matter, so hugh fines may be imminent. They will be looking to recoup their losses, so perhaps you won't be so lucky in the future with NPower!

Npower UK energy profits surge 40% to £545m

Particularly galling when you read The Times dated February 2008 and we now know where their increased profits came from!
“RWE, the German owner of NPower, claimed today that it had finally made an acceptable profit in the UK for the first time since 2003.
The company, which entered the UK market in 2001, said that operating profit had climbed by 40 per cent to €724 million (£545 million) in 2007 up from €512 million.”
They have earned interest on our overcharging, but now is the time we want it back!!!

I understand your frustration and hatred of Npower not necessarily for sculpting,as I'm sure nobody would object to being charged 4572 unit at tier 1 over 12 month period but switch sculpt on and off and not compensating anybody charged over 4572 unit per annum is absolutely disgusting.

Wish you all the best of luck, trying get this injustice over turned.

However any thread or post which contains the Dreaded "Npower", seems to get jumped on by sculpted npower customers.
I recently started a thread advising my fellow member of mse about the fix for free offered by npower which was then hijacted by npower scuplting objector, of course we need to advice consumers about suppliers pitfalls but how many readers are would then discount any money saving deal available.

Everyone needs to be aware of said admitted practices by npower to make an informed decision, because npower will not inform you unless you really persist. If you dont know said practices exist, then how can you ask, never mind persist for an answer, and best of all possibly make the wrong choice.

If you feel that is hijacked, and not actually informing / helping to make an informed decision, then please complain to npower for not informing you / customers of said practices, and thank the people who Do inform you.

Better still you can accept what npower state to you / customers that they only charge a max of 4572 kwh tier 1 per YEAR i.e. 12 months (as per contract, website, official notifications from them). Then and not inform you that they actually practice tariff years, i.e a year is a few to several months and make your decisions on ignorance and be possibly worse off.

Now that is what you call hijacked !!!, I find that comment insultive.

It is hard not to 'jump' on any thread that mentions NPower. We all had contracts, we all had promises, but NPower are not an honourable company and people need to be aware of that.
Just because they promise something, doesn't mean it will be so. I have not a good word to say about them and I look forward to my day in court.

So fiddling flower petals, here is a question.

As a consumer / customer of npower, who is making a decision and / or informing others of deals, would you rather know the full facts to make an informed choice (because npower dont make them known to you) or would you rather make a decision and / or advise others not knowing the full set of facts??

it comes down to being a sensible informed choice / advice

or a decision / advice not knowing the full set of facts (thanks to npower)

    which is it to be??

then decide if you were hijacked??

Fiddling Flower. I'm sorry if my remarks upset you. They were meant in jest. At times this is a very heavy duty thread and quite rightly so. Most on here have been overcharged and in a most devious and underhand manner. Just when we thought we had got some sort of sense out of npower as to how they actually apply their charges you come along and say they are charging you at a flat rate. I was at no point questioning the veracity of your posts. I was astounded that after months of trying to prise the truth out of npower and finally getting it (so we thought) it immediately gets turned on its head. This now poses us with a further possible, but not unforseen problem, that the sculpting may have been altered again (to a flat rate) thus repeating the overcharge that occured last year.

Because of the above I on occasions try to inject a little humour into the thread. I appreciate I can be offbeat at times but I am sure if you read it again you will know I was being tongue in cheek. A Personal Sculpting Adviser was a figment of my strange imagination.

As for switching many of us are in the process but that doesn't get us our money back. However for most of us it is more the principle than the cash. Many posters on here have already switched and are with other suppliers but are so incensed by what has taken place are still trying to get their money back, even if it is only a few pounds. The anger expressed on here is with the outrage at the way it has been done and the dismissive way npower have handled it. If they get away with it then you and those that follow will fall victims too. Threads are not hijacked, but potential switchers should be as much aware of this side of npower as their 'low prices'. Nothing on this thread will you find on npowers site. You won't find 'sculpting', 'tariff year', zero-ing and resetting the 4572 after a few months. Knowledge of this is important to some because without it switching to npower to save money could be a very expensive move. At the end of the day the more knowledge you have of something the better equipped you are to make a decision. Posts on other threads are intended to be helpful, not to create an anti-npower cult.

So please don't leave this thread with a bad taste in your mouth that we are all whinging about nothing. There are two sides to every story. All the good news that npower put out in their ads and on their website is available to tens of millions through the media. We are just a few trying to redress the balance and get some fair treatment. Now you have knowledge of this I would hope that you mention it to other potential switchers to npower. It could save someone money.
