well it wasn't in my 'to do' list for today but while i was tidying under the sink cupboard to put some stuff in the bathroom i found some oven cleaner i'd brought ages ago and not used -oven desperately needed doing so i set to on that task. DS just came in the kitchen as i was rinsing the shelves off and asked why they weren't brown any more:rotfl:
the 'bag' they were soaking in is full of thick black sludge now but the oven looks brill i even took the glass door off and clean that so i can see whats cooking now.:A
I've sorted all my recycling for tomorrow and am doing omlettes for dinner.
this afternoon i've got to make some gun holsters DD is going to a fancy dress as lara croft, shes just popped in the lounge and left a pile of strapping and elastic and 2 pistols on the table and asked if i can run something up for tomorrow:eek: . shes even managed to draw me some detailed designs of what they should end up like so i suppose i'd better try.
not decided on tea yet will have a rummage through the fridge later and see what needs using up.

Afternoon everyone
Back from holiday, and only found out last night that we stayed at the same place where Benthosboy (Martyn) works. Isn't the World a small place ?
I think we were much luckier with the weather as we did have rain, but we also had some lovely sunshine and although it was cold, we just wrapped up and went into the forest with the dog.
Hope I haven't missed anything crucial, and that everyone is OK.

Hello All
Wasn't sure I'd be about today as Mum was rushed to hospital last night.......they kept her for observation and sent her back to the care home this morning. She'd had another mini stroke and it was quite a worry as since her first big stroke she's had so many of these mini ones and we keep being told that 'the next one' could be the last one. Was all panic stations last night and this morning till we knew what was happening.
Thinking of smoky today,............bless and hope all goes ok for her (as well as these things can)
Have a good day and hugs ((((((((((((((((((((:o )))))))))))))))) to those who need themMary

hi everyone.
I've not been on the OS board much before.
Just wondered if you could point me in the right direction?
I have £20 for all food to last me until 11th April.
Are there any good threads for eating cheaply? I don't really want to eat pasta or beans on toast until I get paid!
Thanks guys!

Hi Everyone
I have not read today's thread as I want to just think about Smoky and her family. That is not to say I don't feel for anyone else going through difficulties, celebrating etc etc.
Smoky and family - I have thought about you so much today. Didn't do the virtual candles last night but I have had candles burning in the house today just for you.
Thinking so much about you and glad to read that you seem to have wonderful friends and family around to help with important issues.

Sorry not inclined to chat at the moment. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
Little Pickle - hi and welcome to Old Style
There are quite a few "eat well on a micro budget" threads on the board, but I'm blowed if I can find a section for them on the index. The two I can find, which come to mind straight away, are the current discussion on Jamie Oliver's £5 challenge (recipes here and discussion here), and sammy_kaye's thread on feeding a family for £100 a month.
Mary43 - what a worry for you with your mum's health ((hugs)) - my mum went through similar worries with my grandma (lots of mini strokes) for several years before she passed away. Take care.

hugs again for smokey and the children
i'm back from w*rk early having been "rescued" from having to write my annual report thing with a phone call from dd11's school. I sent her to school with slightly swollen tonsils and a paracetomol - I have picked her up with very very red and swollen tonsils so that's us off for the rest of the week - yay .... er I mean poor poorly thing. I was given a whole day to write my report but I only ever write something along the lines of "I do what's expected and sometimes more - if not I expect my manager would have let me know by now". it makes no difference to my salary wether I write a sentence or a novel so what's the point.
We are off to have a look at dd11's school for next year tonight. exoh is coming too - I hope he doesn't shame me up. When i picked up dd today the secretary mentioned that he'd been on the phone earlier moaning about the lack of afterschool activities, the inability of her teacher to teach anything to the Girl Genius Princess Baby and why oh why oh why aren't her keyboard lessons being taught by - oh I don't know some philharmonicy pianist. I just raise my eyes to the heavens and disown him as fast as I can. I've been a bit peed off myself in that the kids are doing nothing but SATs at the moment but what can the school do?
We are supposed to be going away for a couple of nights on Friday so will see how dd is before deciding whether or not to go - i think she will be ok - she's not feverish at the moment
hi to the newbies - this is a lovely place to be
Mary43 - what a worry - hope your mum's okI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
Hello all,
Have had no internet for two days and was suffering severe withdrawal...even now it is only here now and again, something wrong which an engineer will have to sort properly...whenever!
Smoky, really not thinking about much else except you and your children to-day, I hope that it was not too bad and that there are lots of people around on whom you can lean...we are all here for you should you need or want to talk to us at any time

I too have light a candle thank you Dogrose for the link.
Today puts all our problems into perspective doesn't it .
It also shows what strength for good there is via the internet .There is a lot of bad publicity about the internet, but today on this board we have shown how much good can come from it as well.
Come back to us when you are ready smokeybabe we will all be here for you.
As for the rest of you, tonight give all your loved ones an extra cuddle, and tell them how much you love them
God Bless you all
