has anyone actually got this service to work? i tried sending myself a test message with it, and as a previous poster noted, it says the message has been sent, but i still havent received the message a day later...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Looks like from 1 Nov 2004, O2 are reducing the quota for their free txts from the website to 10 per month:Q. Why has the number of free text messages changed to 10 per month?
O2 has always offered free text messages to its' users from the O2 website and is now one of the last websites in the UK still to be doing so. Rather than stop offering any free text messages, we have reviewed existing customer usage patterns, and as a result believe that a revised free text quota of 10 means that the majority of existing users will still not be significantly affected. We also believe this remains one of the best offers in the marketplace, combined with the best functionality...

u can send 5 free msgs a day on https://www.virginstudent.com ... u have to register ur phone and all that malarky, but 5 is better than none, and i´ve never had any problems with it!
they no longer offer free sms unfortunately.0 -
I just found this one, called genietexter, mentioned in a newsgroup. Its all a bit technical for me but the newsgroup members seem very keen on it.
Theres now an easy to follow tutorial on how to use GenieTexterSomeone also said you can send international texts with it too.
yes it can indeed send international texts, and theres now a page to show you which countries you can send to using GT

The following list may be helpful:
http://www.118888.co.uk - 10 free SMS daily. The site may have been down but it was up today.
http://www.o2.co.uk recently reduced to 10 SMS per month. Anyone with mobile can use.
http://www.orange.net 30 SMS per month - think you have to be an orange user
http://www.fonetastic.co.uk (10 free SMS daily)
http://www.boltblue.com (15 per month - also to Ireland, Canada and USA)
http://www.tiscali.co.uk (5 free international SMS per day. They give you an e-mail address on Tiscali which you have to use from time to time or else you are blocked - bit like hotmail)
http://www.sms.ac (8 free international SMS messages per day)
http://www.b4u.co.uk (4 free international SMS per day)
http://www.1rstwap.com (4 international per week)
http://www.gmx.net )15 per month to Germany, Austria or Switzerland but you need to have a mobile phone in one of those countries)
Then there's always Martin's favourite - cardboard fish at http://www.cbfsms.com but there are problems with that. When it works well, it's lovely but very often it says "Sending" and you just hang there and hang there and you don't know whether the message has been delivered. Personally, I use 118888 a lot and find it works fine. All these sites combined save me a mint.0 -

thats funny, that list looks familiar! ;-) probably because i was the one that originally compiled it, and posted it in a few different forums, including this one
btw the sites in that list are all compatible with genietexter, the free sms sending program0 -
Also try http://www.freesmsmate.co.uk/ which gives you free texts and address book. You can gain more "Credits" by registering with different sites. You get 5 credits EVERY DAY. You can also get Logo Design credits, Free Logos and Ringtones and Ringtone Design credits. It's fab! AND FREE!!!0
