I've just been caught - the monthly charge is £10 and it was taken after I made a hotel reservation through Expedia. I remember registering for Shoppers Discounts because a £15 voucher for my next purchase from Expedia was promised. There was no mention of a £10 per month fee - I've only now know they intended to take £10 per month because I've spoken to them after finding their website and this thread.

I did get through quickly on the telephone to their customer services department and they have promised to cancel my 'membership' and refund the £10, but they insisted I must have entered my credit card details on their site - I didn't and wouldn't give my details to a company I only became aware of through a 'pop-up'!

So, beware if using Expedia. I'm sure some people wouldn't spot this on their credit card accounts .
  • Hi

First of all I would like to comment that I used the telephone number provided by Customer Services of Shopper Discounts & Rewards and they seemed helpful in cancelling my account which was opened without me really realising the implications of what I was signing up to. Technically my fault but its done in such a way as to make it appear a free service. They have promised a confirmatory email. Hopefully that will arrive. I encountered these people through Expedia as what I thought was a final step in the purchase process. I also have now encountered them on CD-Wow too.Unless you have been stung once its very easy to be taken in by this. As a general principle I will be wary of using CD Wow and Expedia now because of their chosen partners. This has so far cost me £10 to learn a very important lesson. My bank told me these people have been around for around 15 years. So either Visa aren't listening to complaints (lots of these charges are disputed) or they have changed the way they operate. I still cant get away from the feeling I have been scammed and cheated. £10 doesnt seem much but if you get that lots of times you are talking big money. Plus if you dont notice whats going on you will get a £10 charge every month. Thanks for the helpful info on this thread.

I too got stung via Expedia and made the same assumptions. Shopper Discounts & Rewards. I too didn't give my credit card details but I think that Expedia must have provided them as part of the process. If that is the case its tantamount to fraud and illegal use of the details provided in good faith As I said earlier watch out on CD Wow also but they do make reference to a future charge and they insist on 3 steps to confirm your full details. This is very different to what happened with Expedia. I will not be using expedia again and am very wary of CD Wow now.

I inadvertently ended up subscribing to shoppers discount from an Interflora £10.00 offer voucher after ordering flowers online, unbeknown to me Interflora, unbelievably, passed my card details on to SD. I have only just twigged that £8.00 / month has been going out of my account since June 2007. Have been in touch with IF and SD and am getting a full refund but it really is outrageous that they have done this & I won't ever use Interflora again for their trouble. As for SD how many thousand of other people’s accounts are being inadvertently milked of £8.00 every month - what a great scam!
This is what happened to me with Interflora. Only today have I received my full refund of £184!

    Interflora were useless and said

"By entering my email address as my electronic signature and clicking YES, I have read and agree to the Offer and Billing Details and authorise Interflora.co.uk to securely transfer my name, address and credit or debit card information to Shopper Discounts & Rewards for billing and benefit processing."

All I agreed to was the so called free money off £10 voucher from Interflora!

    Curiouser and curiouser!

I wrote earlier in this thread that although I'd cancelled my unwanted membership of these scams, I managed to get a cheque out of them for £10 which I claimed before I realised what was afoot. Now this morning there is a £10 credit from Trainline in my bank account (yes, a credit!).

I have no idea what this is for but all donations gratefully accepted!

I was a repeat customer of Buy.Com but I am glad to announce that this is the last time I will ever buy anything from Buy.com. I will also advice all friends and family not to patronize Buy.Com.

    Why?
I bought a Digital Camera Canon PowerShot A590 IS 8. Everything went smoothly and I received my camera on time, and have been using it with no problem. Everything was excellent; transaction, shipping, products, etc. One month later I see a fraudulent charge on my credit card bill, apparently from Shopper Discount and Rewards. I dispute and follow through and it comes out that in trying to get a promised $10 coupon for my next purchase, I have signed up for membership of Shopper Discount and Rewards. To the best of my knowledge I never did sign up for Shopper Discount and Rewards. I also halted the sign up process as soon as I realized that I have to enroll in something to get the rewards. Meanwhile, there was no mention of a monthly recurring fee.

I also did not give Shopper Discount and Rewards my credit card and other information. Apparently Buy.com is working with Shopper Discount and Rewards or is in collusion with them. The Customer Rep at Shopper Discount and Rewards confirmed that my information was received from Buy.com. I did not and have not authorized Buy.com to share my personal information with Shopper Discount and Rewards. I now have serious doubts about the credibility of Buy.com and their respect for their customers.
I will advice all to think twice about shopping at Buy.com and not bother to try to redeem that $10 discount.
    Why should I be charged $12 a month for a $10 discount.

    I hold Buy.com responsible.

I have just noticed I'm a victim of the shoppersdiscount scam. They've been charging me £10 a month since September 08. They got me suckered in via Interflora, who i'll never use again. I'll ring in the morning and post any results.
  • Got my fulll refund for all eleven months within two weeks after writing them a strongly worded letter mentioning the small claims court if I didn't receive my money by the end of the month. Will be a lot more careful from now on.

I just spoke to Shopper discount. I was signed up through Monarch airlines, when I agreed to a £15 voucher off my next flight (whch I never took).
They've refunded my last 3 payments and will send me a claim form to ask for the rest of my money.

They said that they sent me an email after 30 days of my purchases to say that if I wish to continue with my membership they will charge me £10 per month. I have noticed their emails, but clicked them Into my spam box so maybe that's why I never read their emails.

So I was wrong to point the finger at Interflora, but I still think they're out of order to allow this to happen on their website, to their customers.

The email they sent 2 minutes after I rang them:
This notice confirms that your Membership in Shopper Discounts & Rewards has been cancelled as of 05/05/2009.

Your cancel confirmation number is: 2484####.

We have issued a refund of your Membership fee. This refund will appear as a credit to your account within the next 10 working days.

Please let us know if your request was resolved to your satisfaction. All responses submitted will go to our Customer Service Director for review because your feedback is important to us.

If you would like to provide feedback, please

    Sincerely,

The Shopper Discounts & Rewards Team
    0808 234 1539

I also have the claim form which I can send to anyone who needs it, just pm me. The claim form asks for 'Your cancel confirmation number', so you will need to ring the above number to get it.
  • Several months ago I ordered a rail ticket through TRAINLINE online. I was asked if I wanted discount on the ticket through a shoppers discount voucher. I agreed and received the discount. However ever since that purchase SHOPPERS DISCOUNT have continued to take £10 per month from my account. All efforts to contact the company via e:mail and telephone have failed. I contacted my bank LLOYDS TSB who advise there is little they can do because the money is being debited from my cashline card, ie it is not a direct debit or standing order they can simply cancel for me. What they have done is written to Shoppers Discounts bank and asked them to stop debiting my account. The letter was sent on the 26th of March - SHOPPERS DISCOUNT TOOK THE MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT AGAIN ON THE 15TH APRIL. According to the bank this is OK as SD posted the request on the 8th April, within the statutory 15 days notice required. I am advised that no more should come from my account now... watch this space! Advice - GIVE SHOPPERS DISCOUNT A HUGE BERTH, THEY HAVE KNOWINGLY ROBBED ME AND MY BANK HAVE HARDLY BEEN PROACTIVE IN AVOIDING IT HAPPENING AGAIN.
