    Dear Wdiag,

Ever since you started posting on here I've been trying to emulate your cool headed and calm response to life's little challenges, and failing miserably by comparison.;) ;)

Don't do it; it's a bad move that you'll regret sooner rather than later. We had brand new Dell computers at my last job, and they were a disaster.

Go for additonal memory in your existing computer, and spend the money more wisely; a three week holiday, for example.  :D

    Best regards

    Richard

No, just more popular with my ex on some nights in those days than on others. :D

Why on earth did I start talking about this? :embarasse  :silenced: :D
  • OK, a friend has just given me a VERY pointed reminder of why I shouldn't buy the computer. She acknowledged that I could easily spend £280 on the computer. However, that money could pay for 8 hours in the recording studio. She asked me which was more important, the studio time or the computer? Of course, the studio time won hands down. So I should be able to get through this horrible craving as long as I keep reminding myself that I've got studio time to save up for. :)

  • Thanks, everyone. My situation just goes to show that, no matter how strong you are in other areas, everyone has a weak spot. :)

:T Yaay! way to go that friend :T

We will have to try and remember that as well and when you are feeling the urge just post and we can give a keep up the proverbial :D .

Or alternitivly you could post a notice above your computer "studio time is more important than a new computer" :D

One of my best friends from my student days (late 80’s) with whom I used to share a house, studied for of all things a Diploma in Pop Music recording. He’s done very well and works as a sound engineer and I have to say I envied him as a slogged away at my Business Studies HND, he always wanted to go to the pub since his ‘homework’ was in the studio (a 16 track!) at college (we went to the pub a lot! happy days).

Anyway the point of me posting - again! - is that while nothing can match studio time it is possible to engineer a DIY solution at home that might help between such studio sessions which can be expensive.

You perhaps already know this but you’ll need a decent sound card with ASIO (audio stream in out) drivers which can record and playback via ‘monitors’ the input you put into them without any noticeable delay (try this with a normal sound card and you’ll get an echo effect). Given your interests and the sound of it ambitions this might well be money very well spent if you haven’t already got such kit at home. I have another friend from school who converted part of his home to a home studio (originally recording via DAT tape) later PC based classical guitar compositions whch has been a nice earner on the side for him (from his day job as a teacher)
