I think i'm right in saying that Burns has a set price for its food, so the price on the website should be what you pay in the shops. I was talking to John Burns at Crufts a couple of years ago, who said he likes to support the local pet shops, this is probably why you won't find it in the big pet shop chains.

If you spend over £ 178.66 (exc VAT) you can get a 6% discount.
You can also get vouchers if order samples.

Help me out here because I'd love to be able to feed my 2 on Burns but currently it's twice the price per 15kg bag of the Burgess I do feed them.

Presumably Burns is basically higher in calories than the Burgess, therefore you need to feed less of it. But don't the dogs still fee hungry? I mean, if I eat a mars bar at 300kcals, I'm going to feel hungrier than if I eat a 300kcal balanced meal. Hmmm, bad example.

I need to go away and think my question through! But my hounds are somewhat greedy and one of them is a terrible food thief as it is, so I'm worried that feeding a smaller qunatity of food will fill them up less, even though the calories and nutrition may be better. Do you see what I mean?
  • Hi
I used to feed Burns but the cost was to much try looking at Nutro
    http://www.nutro.co.uk/
I used to feed this but now feed raw
  • As an aside, do any Burns users feel the quality has dropped lately?
I found a piece of rubber cord in a tin of Lamb, Rice and Vegetables a couple of days ago and they seem to have more gristle/fatty bits in them. The mixer also seems very "dusty" and easily crushed.
Or is it just me being unlucky?

You could top them up with veggies if you need to - as long as it's not potatoes or other carbohydrates it will help fill them up without piling on the pounds. I feed James Wellbeloved, and my mutt is a terrible scavenger. The quantity she gets is fine, as she doesn't lose weight on it, but if she goes into scavenge overdrive, I give her the veggies and she's abit happier.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • if you top them up with veggies are you not just re-creating the sort of proportions found in cheaper foods - regarding which, people's main grumble seems to be that 'meat is not the main ingredient'?

I do not think this is a bad thing for dogs as canines have evolved to eat more than just meat, but it is often one of the arguments used against cheaper foods.

Does anyone have good advice on the cheapest places to buy Burns from (taking P&P and VAT into account).

Cheapest I can find so far is from Burns Pet Nutrition.

Totals £41.99 from there (including VAT and free delivery).

I normally buy from there anyway but has anyone got any better prices?

I pay £38.50 from my local store and I collect (surrey). I don't know your location but if you add delivery, then you are no better off. I'm quite surprised at the price increase lately.

I have always found the moist Burns to be of poor quality personally, for the same reasons as you.

I don't use the mixer so I can't comment on this.

The dry complete , in my opinion , is of consistently good quality.

I feed a part raw diet here.

I don't want to change their food as I have one dog with a sensitive tum and another which just loves Burns and refused to eat when I changed their food recently :p

Burns does vary, depending on the store you get it from.

I wouldn't have the room to store £178.66 worth! :rotfl:
