  • If you have a Home Bargains near you it's worth checking in there - I used to get Iams meat sachets & biscuits for my cat & they were a lot cheaper in there - they might have dog food too. Also, Poundland sometimes get Iams stuff in.

Also, buy in bulk. So 15kg bags rather than 5kg ones.

I posted on here but deleted it because I didn't want to sound like a complainy-pants. But Iams do test on animals. I understand if your dog won't eat anything else, as I know I'd have to buy it if my pets were the same, I'm really not rying to make anyone feel bad, but if your pet does eat other brands please consider swapping brands! If you want more infomation on it google 'boycott iams' I don't want to plaster it all over here but I just thought I'd let you know.

Thanks for the help guys. Iams does work our cheaper I think....about 35p a day for him. But it's the outlay. I think we're going to bite the bullet and order the big 15kg bag off the cheapest site on the internet....i have worked out that that will last him 4 months!!!!

I will check Poundland and home bargains too...I know we have both but haven't been to either as yet (only just moved to the area)

    Thanks for the help guys........
Proud to be dealing with my debts

Debt free by Sept 2010!! Or Bust!!!! :T :T :T
  • Burns does both dry & wet food - they are organic & don't test on animals. Try hand feeding - usually wins over pets as they associate hand feeding with treats ....

I just looked at the feeding guide for Iams - it's lower than Burns! Good news for moneysaving as that's always been one of Burns' selling points.

Where did you find the feeding guide? I just looked and couldnt find it.

However, I am not sure that all cheaper foods are a false economy as is suggested. For example my 10kg dog eats 150g Wagg a day, which I work out costs me less than 11 p a day. (I buy a 15kg bag for about £9 normally, but these calculations ae based on it costing me a tenner a bag)

Before anyone accuses me of feeding my dog cheap rubbish, she is in great condition and my last dog lived till a lively 16 on it! (no artificial colours etc, they are a UK company, and again, no animal testing - unlike some!!)

I've heard Wagg supposed to be ok, as so is Chappie, at the end of the day if your dog is ok on a certain food then stick to it.

I was talking to a bloke a while ago who has had Jack Russels for the past 30 odd years, all he fed his dog on was tins of corned beef!!!

A friend fed her dog on a BARF diet, one of her dogs developed a severe skin condition which has took ages to correct, she's now feeding her dog on Luaths holistic diet (chicken & rice) recommended by specialists.

    We use Burns here.

Yes its expensive but the condition of my dogs greatly justifies it.

Oh and Burns means less poo too! :D

Wagg is a good, cheap dry complete although not as good as Burns, JWB etc... You get what you pay for.

Burgess Supadog is a good midrange (around £25 per 15KG). One of mine doesn't like it though.

Chappie (moist) is good for settling upset tummies, I always keep a couple of tins in the pantry.

I also feed raw sometimes (carefull not to feed raw and cooked/dry together as this can cause upset tummies). They get raw mince, chicken wings, pork ribs, meaty bones etc ...

Does anyone have good advice on the cheapest places to buy Burns from (taking P&P and VAT into account).

Cheapest I can find so far is from Burns Pet Nutrition.

Totals £41.99 from there (including VAT and free delivery).

I normally buy from there anyway but has anyone got any better prices?
