my dog attacked by another - any advice?

I have some in the house and used it on my rott boy as a pup. He now only needs to see the can to back off so I think it would put the fear into him if it appeared on a walk, never mind the dog who approached us. TBH I would also find it hard to hold 2 dogs in 1 hand and get the can out and spray it but I agree with you that it is effective. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

Yes, I agree. I am glad your boy is ok and the other dog too. A lesson learned. But please, don't announce you have kicked a dog in such a manner publically, I can only image how the other person would feel if they had witnessed it, with a young child present too..
Am i the only one who has been confused?? These were 2 different incidents, from two different posters, TWO years apart weren't they?0 -
I have been looking on the web to see what i could do as my (rescue)Springer got bitten today by a Japanese Akita.
I took him down the local park where we go most days,i let him out of the car and was doing up my boots when he went over to an Akita who was on his way out of the park, both dogs were squeeking at each other,i looked down to tie my lace when i heared a noise i looked up and the Akita had my springer by the neck.
I rushed over and could only seperate the dog by kicking the Akita several time and the last time was in the groin he then let my dog go,the owner then appeared around the corned with his wife and young daughter ,i took my dog to the vets and he found 4 punture marks which were cleaned and i now have pain killers and anti biotics and a bill for £60.
The owner has given me his name and address and the vet told me that it's not unreasonable to give him the bill as his dog caused the injurys
There were several witnesses who i see daily while walking the dog who saw the incident.
I have been given different advice from report it to the police to the rspca but looking at this thread there is very little i can do about this
How dare you kick the dog in the groin, you may have killed it!
Dogs get aggressive sometimes, its their nature. HOw are you sure that is wasnt his way of playing?
You should have left them to it until the owners turned up. To kick the other dog in the groin is despicable. :mad:0 -

Thankyou!! :j
I haven't kicked anyone's dog... ever... however, I did start this thread two years ago, which gethro has clearly found more recently when looking for advice...
However, for the record, to those who suggest gethro should have left both dogs to it, I think if gethro had done so, s/he may have ended up with a dead dog. Safe playing does not result in puncture wounds, and wounds to the neck can quickly result in severe blood loss.0 -

At the end of the day both dogs were off the leads, and he was the one lashing out and kicking.
We only have his word for it that the dog was crazy.
Dead dog my foot. How many dogs fighting, if it was even that, have you known to end up dead?
Over dramatic to say the least. Come to think of it, so is Gethro. One and the same?0 -
Yes of course and you know what was happening how?

My troll alarm is ringing now!! :rolleyes:0 -
ok so my problem is the opposite my dog today attacked another dog, we have had him for 6 years with no problem except him being attacked once. i was mortified that he had attacked this dog and kept appologising, but the other guy went mental at me, there was no harm done to either dog but just kept saying sorry isnt good enough and asked me weather i have public liability what should i do?
thanks

If you're sure that there was no harm done to his dog, I would do nothing.
AFAIK, there is no legal requirement to compensate unless there is damage done that actually costs money (and I'm not even sure that in that case that you HAVE to pay the vets bill, rather than you SHOULD!)
From his point of view I suppose he only has your word that this has never happened before and he probably got a hell of a fright....and anger followed.Still, not an excuse for bad manners though.
However, as I'm sure you already know that you are going to have to make sure that it doesn't happen again or you could well end up with a massive vets bill for somebody elses dog, a visit from the dog warden and potentially the police if someone gets bitten trying to break up a dog fight - but you sound like you know that anyway!0 -

What do you mean by attacked? If there was no harm done, I wouldnt worry too much - are you sure it was an attack, not overly rough/growly play?
When I started this thread a couple of years ago, it was after a dog definitely 'went for' my dog - had she not been faster turning I am certain she would have been hurt - as it stands, I have noticed the chap whose dog it was now keeps the dog on lead unless he is certain the field is empty, and that's good enough for me. Also, over a couple of years my dog has gone from being a bit nervous of other dogs to being quite confident, so it did no lasting harm.
If you are sure it was an attack, what happened prior to the attack? Where were you, was your dog on a lead, was the other dog? With so little info it is hard to advise, but these things happen, and if there is no injury, its not the end of the world.0
