this sort of thing annoys me so much as i cant enjoy a run in the park anymore with our GSD
He doesnt 'play well with others' shall we say, but he does have perfect recall - every single time - without fail despite anything!
However there are certain ppl who like to walk thier dog off lead in the park. No probs with that - if they had recall!
So there is I,with muttley,on lead -the long retractable type, as he cant be trusted to play nice, then thier dog runs over & tries to play.... no amount of calling once they realise thats NOT a play bark will get thier dog to recall to them. , but what can I do? Mine is muzzzled & on lead (but needs a bigger space to run/be sometimes) .. all I can do is shout at the dog/owner to go away.........:(
I discussed this with my vet & he agreed I was doing all the right things & 'no recall' dogs cause so many probs. At least if I ever have to go to court (as vet said) I know I was responsible for my dog & his actions

EDIT - to add my advice - as advised by my vet..... report the incident to the police, they wont act (probably) but its been recorded if the dog hurts an other dog or person. Best outcome is they (police) report to the warden & they speak to the owner............
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know

I can sympathise with the OP since we had an incident whilst walking my girlfriends parents dog.

He doesn't mix well with other dogs so we had him on a lead.

A group of mature people and their children had a doberman off the lead and the dog started coming towards us despite several recalls.

The situation ending up in them shouting profanities (in front of the children) at us when we told them to put their dog on a lead...there are signs at the entrances to the park requesting this too.

I was so angry afterwards and slightly in shock, I had to put myself between the two dogs to try and let my girlfriend walk our dog away...I never resort to violence but at that instant I felt like throttling someone
  • Thanks everyone for all your help and advice, I have got the dog warden's contact details now and am going to give them a ring.

On a brighter note my dog has got her picture on the internet! - the rescue I got her from have put some of my piccies of the dog on their website - what do you think...?

.. oh, and does anyone have any suggestions of what she might be a mixture of? She is pretty short legged, about 12 inches at her shoulders I guess, but has quite a long body...

She is a lovely dog, with a great temperement and is a great advert for rescue dogs in my opinion!

    Thanks again,

I reckon there's a good bit of Cardiganshire Corgi in there.

    ha ha that is uncanny!!

I actually found that photo a few days ago when I googled cardigan corgi, (cos I suspect that she is part corgi too!) and that picture popped up - she looks just like Badger in the face, me and the OH were amazed!!

...Although I think Badger would have tried to eat the cat :-)

    thanks!!

I'd say Cardiganshire Corgi too, but she also has a bit of Lancashire Heeler about her too.

Whatever her make up, she's a lovely looking dog. :heartsmil

Let us know how you get on.

I have 2 dogs, one who only recently has become aggresive with other dogs, kaflinkle like your she just suddenly started trying to attack after always 'ignoring' other dogs, possibly as she's getting old (almost 11) and the other who is VERY playful, he's just crackers and wants to play with every other dog. As the old girl has started to become aggresive I keep her on the lead when other dogs are around, her recall is still perfect but I prefer the control if required. The boy then wants to be on his lead of course as he feels left out :rotfl: I do allow them to run on the field, we go when noone else is usually there, they get a good run before going back on leads, they are recalled if I even spot another dog coming anywhere near. We have tested her with a friend's dog last week, she would have played with her in the past without being nasty, in all honesty she couldn't do much damage with her lack of teeth but she did try and was immediately put back on the lead. Play nice or not at all!! The problem we have is other dogs. Dogs with little/no recall when there are other dogs to distract them who come bounding over then the owners moan when she wants to bite them?
One day I might be more organised...........

Ive got two rotties who we are unable to socalise due to an incident when my dog was 6 months old. He got out during the day and got lost as he was only young we looked everywhere for him. Eventually a woman came and said i think ive got your dog in my house. We picked him up and he was fine and had been playing with this ladies Rottie. Later that evening a guy walked past my house and my rottie who was very doppy chased after him something he'd never done before. To cut a long story short we found out that this guy had hit my dog earlier on in the day for no apparant reason and ever since my dog hates other dogs. This man whos dog attacked yours should be made to keep his dogs in control. I hope your dog gets over this attack!
