Waffles??? Mixes and recipes

Well I must be the only person on here who likes them then. We always have a box in the freezer. They are waffley versatile you know! My daughter loves one for breakfast with a poached egg on top and I love them with cheese melted on. Yummy.
How about bubble and squeak? Maybe that would take the edge off the craving if you don't want to buy any or you could maybe adapt it and just make small mash potato rounds or hash browns would be easy. Potato skins? You could fill them with mozzerella and spring onions or something like that.
What did she used to have them with?I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0 -
Hi, I am now the owner of a Bifinet waffle iron,:j just got it today from Lidl.
But, when it comes to cooking these they all seem like soggy pancakes - and they are barely raised and have tiny dimples - not like waffles should be.
I have tried with a thicker batter, and am thinning it down as I go in the hope of better results, but no such luck.
Do I have the iron on too low - maybe it needs to be hotter?
Can someone with this type of iron let me know what settings/times they cook their waffles at??
Thanks in advance.

What recipe are you using for your waffles as this may be the cause of your soggy waffles

Originally posted by competionscafe, and copied below.WAFFLES:
2 free-range eggs, seperated
80g caster sugar
half teaspoon vanilla extract (the proper stuff, not vanillan/ vanilla favouring!)
60g unsalted butter, melted
180g plain flour
half teaspoon baking powder
Warm up the waffle maker.
Whisk the egg whites to soft peaks.
In seperate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the sugar and vanilla extract until creamy. Whisk in the melted butter, then the flour & baking powder (gradually) then whisk in the milk to form a thick, smooth batter. Gently fold in the egg-whites (I stir in a spoonful of egg-white first and then fold in the rest). I also do everything with the whisk attachment of a braun hand-blender as it's much quicker and easier on the arms!
That's it - just cook the batter in the waffle maker and serve with delicious toppings of your choice. Green & Black's vanilla ice-cream with lashings of maple syrup goes down a treat, chopped nuts or bananas go well with this combo too.
The OP seemed to have no problems with the waffles, and they taste good, but I am having problems getting them like the pics on the box, nice and risen, with some kind of "body" mine are like shaped pancakes - think limp and flat!:rotfl:
I have had enough waffle fun for one evening- the kids were not impressed, so if anyone has any ideas thanks!

Hi MrsB,
How long do you leave your batter for?? When i've made waffles i was told to leave the batter in the fridge to set for either 3 hours or over night so the batter had set and wasn't runny. This is the recipe that i use (it came with the waffle maker),
250g Plain Flour,
250g Sugar,
250g Melted Marg/Butter,
4 Eggs,
Vanilla,
1 Pinch of Salt,
Mix the flour and sugar together. Melt the butter/marg and mix in to the flour and sugar and add vanilla to taste (i use 1 teaspoon). Add the egg yolks and mix well, then beat in egg whites with salt till the mixture is stiff.
Leave the batter in the fridge for 3 hours or overnight.
(This makes approx 16 waffles)

How would you make HM waffles? My ds lover them but i think i must be able to make them healthier? Is it just a case of frying mash?0

I think the main problem is that whether you are making traditional waffles or potato waffles you are going to need a waffle iron to cook them.
If you Google waffle recipes then you will get loadsd to choose from, but all the ones that I have looked at require a waffle iron.0
