quick question on this i have searched Crucial before and it comes back with no results for my laptop. It is in desperate need for an upgrade so can somebody point me in the right direction if possible for which ram my laptop will take, it would be greatly appreciated.
The Laptop is a Packard Bell EasyNote MZ35-216 Intel Celeron CPU @ 1.46 Ghz and 448MB of RAM.
Thanks
I'm guessing that your system is about 5 yrs old? In which case you'll struggle to find the right RAM thesedays - possibly plain old SD Ram, a quick chech at aria.co.uk shows they have some stock, but 512MB is the max size, so you could only go up 2 1gb assuming you've got 2 slots0 -

If anyone has bought their laptop from a Dixons Group store you can check what RAM you machine takes here
http://support.thetechguys.com
click on product guides and then follow the links.
Hope this helps.
(crucial is the other option)
With Dell Machines you can put your Service Tag into the dell site and see what has been used to configure your machine.

Something else to consider is whether your laptop supports dual-channel memory. If it does, you'll get better performance using matched pairs of memory modules eg. 1GBx2 instead of 2GBx1. They have to be identical.
Crucial offer these as 'kits' of 2 identical modules, whereas I can't see how to ensure that 2 modules ordered from 7dayshop will be of identical brand / density / whatever.
An example...
My Acer TravelMate 6463WLMi came with 1GB installed as 2x512GB modules. I want to install 2GB.
Crucial's site has useful info about matching pairs & dual channel memory (as supported by this laptop) in the Q&A box, and while their main 2GB recommendation is a single 2GB module for £30.54 inc VAT, selecting "View All Compatible Parts" reveals two different 2x1GB "kits" of DDR2 modules, both for £28.19 inc vat. (One is PC2-4200, the other the presumably faster PC2-5300, both of which are compatible with this laptop).
The acerdirect (sales) site gives full details, spec and "Recommended Accessories" for this laptop which includes "1GB Laptop Memory PC2-5300" for £24.97 inc. VAT (nearly £50 for 2). It states "The manufacturer may vary." There appears to be no guarantee of getting a matching pair if you order two (unless you phone to order specifically I guess).
Likewise 7dayshop has this equivalent module for £10.99, again "Brand may vary from image shown". Two of these would be under £22, only £6 lower than Crucial.
I'm going with Crucial0 -
Could I just ask, has anyone used www.7dayshop.com before? If I was going to use a web store for the first time I always check where their office is based. How long they have been trading, their company registration number and do a test call to their phone number.
This site does not have any of that information from what I can see and I would not use them because of that. But if everyone else has used them and got their goods I might give it ago.0 -
Hi wizard5353,
I've used 7dayshop quite a few times, for items ranging from rechargeable batteries and chargers through to cheap camera tripods and inkjet cartridges. They're one of these Guernsey based outfits I think, so they try and post in under £18 batches which means they don't have to charge VAT, which is how they keep the costs down I think!
Of course that just means we all pay the tax in some other way!
Their postage is reliable, and the items arrive in reasonable time, but just be very sure you're buying the right thing. Some of the descriptions are a bit sparse, so I usually check specs on other sites first.
I almost certainly will use them in the future.

Complete nonsense.
Re Crucial. This company is perhaps the most efficient, customer friendly on-line retailer in the UK, along with Amazon and one or two others.0 -

I've used 7DayShop for most of this decade - it's a first class online retailer based in Guernsey, offers a wide range of top products at very competitive prices and orders arrive within a week or so (you have to take into account the postal services and routes involved!)
I can thoroughly recommend the company and its standards of after sales service.
Re your comments about the company itself. You may have missed this information on its website:

If you're not sure what you're doing, I would always go with the Crucial Memory Scanner, which will tell you exactly what you need. Far better to spend an extra couple of quid for peace of mind that you're definitely buying the right thing.
Just because something says it's the correct amount of pins and correct speed doesn't mean it's the correct "build" of memory.
If you know what you're doing and you know what you need, go for the deal. If you're not sure - Don't risk it.Team Fishcake - Silly, strange, surreal and stupid original comedy0
