Hi everyone,
Sadly it appears we have unwanted visitors againI wanted to get one of those ultrasonic devices but we have a hamster. Does anyone know if it would be safe to move him upstairs while we use the ultrasonic device downstairs? I'm tempted to use traditional traps and bait but I'm worried that the kids will get to it in the night. Has anyone got any suggestions please?
Many thanks

The ultrasonic devices run through the electrical circuit so the whole house is covered. the hampster would not be safe upstairs I'm afraid.
I would use traps and put them where you know the animal is coming in.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Hi
I bought one of those devices and wasted £35. They do not work, proof in the pudding is my cat dropping a live mouse in front of me yesterday afternoon which promtly got away while I was running around the house shutting all the doors! The last time she caught one she prompty dumped it on my bed (still alive) which had me stripping off bed covers like a mad woman until I had caught it in a box  They are supposed to affect the nervous system of the mice but do not seem to have much affect on them. If I were you I wouldn`t bother, I would buy humane traps instead. Good Luck!

Thanks Rikki and Maria for such a quick response!
I feel so ashamed about this. Maria thanks for cheering me up with your mouse stories LOL! Thanks I'll take your advice and get the humane traps instead.
Thanks again!

Mice need food and shelter to survive. Thus if you seal up all your food and seal up where they are getting in, your problem should be solved. You could use humane mouse traps for any still trapped inside, release the mice and they will not be able to get back in. Bear in mind they can get through any hole that a biro can get through.
Please please do not use glue traps or poison (I am sure you wouldn't with your children anyway) as they are not nice for all concerned.0 -
You know the last time we had them (while we were away on holiday!), we found out were they were getting in and sealed up the hole (or so I thought
) I had no idea about them getting in through such tiny spaces!
No don't worry glue traps sound awful and I didn't want to use poison because of the kids (4 and 2).
Thanks for the advice- I'm very grateful.July Win: Nokia 58000 -

A friend of ours caught 22 mice in 2 days in his traps!
He found them to be very particular to mars bars! from our own experience with mice in our pigeon loft we found that chocolate spread also goes down well!
For the animal welfare supporters amongst you use humane traps and let them go well away from your house(and ANYONE ELSES!) :snow_laugDo what you love :happyhear0 -
great advice about the mars bars and chocolate spread- I'll give that a go tonight- thanks!July Win: Nokia 58000

I caught my most recent furry visitor using bacon fat from my health grill. I just smeared it on the trap and it worked well. Needless to say all my gaps, since discovered, have now been filled with expanding foam. Touch wood it's been a week now and no more signs.0
