    Hi all,

Any old-style ideas for ridding ourselves of a mouse - humanely if possible?

Woke up yesterday morning to find a mouse had created a nest in our cupboard, in a bag of porridge oats... bought some humane traps but it seems the mouse keeps setting them off and they're closing without the mouse being caught inside! There's a hole in the back of the cupboard where the water meter is - obviously can't block it up until we've caught the mouse as we don't want the mouse to die behind the cupboard...

Don't like the idea of poisining it if there's any other solution - not least because we have a cat (he's a useless mouser though, before that's raised as an idea!)

    Thanks,

    RR

Peppermint oil. Get it in holland & barratt, bodyshop, anywhere that sells aromatherapy oil, should be around £3. Place on cotton balls & leave in strategic places. Also wipe around his access route if you can. Worked a treat for us.

I tried all sorts when I had mice. Only thing that worked was glue traps - and they worked instantly, caught 3 mice in 5 minutes!

Am very glad hubbie was there to deal with the end result though, they are definately not humane! (I justify it by pointing out that the humane traps were down for days before I resorted to murder! If they had only cooperated I had a lovely field lined up for them!)

    Hi
I agree with Gemma. The only time we haven't had a cat we got a mouse. We tried every type of humane trap and baited with chocolate.None worked we eventually resorted to the spring ne and it worked straight off.

Could you borrow a cat because just the smell makes go?

We resorted to snap traps with chocolate in them to catch the mice we had, as the humane traps didnt work

My dd and her housemates had this problem a while ago and the rental agency supplied some plugs that gave off a high frequency - no more mice! Might be worth a try? Don't know the cost though.

We have a cat and have had cats all our married life so never had a (live) mouse problem but plenty of the other kind though!

Who have a cat who deliberately brings in live mice bless him. We found the humane traps work best with peanut butter, it sticks to the far end of the trap better so that the mouse HAS to go inside to get it. Moving all other food into a stakcer box with a lid helped last time though - eat the peanut butter or starve!

Ferret poo works quite well as it scares the mice off. Unfortunatly I doubt you 'd want some ferret poo in your kitchen cupboard! as for bait in a humane trap, birdseed works very well.
