How can commenting on a three year old thread be useful? I'm sure people don't think "I know, I'll ask someones advice on Martins Lewis's MSE Forum and wait three years for the answer. In the mean time I'm going to carry on cr*pping in my blocked toilet and when my bathroom floor is completely covered in last weeks Roast beef and yesterdays Guiness and Curry extravaganza, I'll think about sh*tting in carrier bags and hurling it over next doors garden".

    Sweet Mother of God!

Thanks, not only have i managed to unblock my bog, i've not laughed liked that, uncontrollable, tears etc, in a loooong time. Made my evening!!
  • the mop method worked a treat!!!!!!!!
many thanx as i would never have thought of a mop to clear a bog blocker!
    xx
  • We had this problem (loo not totally blocked, but water going down very, very slowly.) In a moment of uncharacteristic genius, I thought of squashing a third inflated (i.e. not fully inflated) balloon over the hole and pulling it up sharply to get a customised plunger effect. Did it 2 or 3 times.Worked like magic!

The mop method worked fine last week, but now the problem has returned. Not a brim-full, just a slowly rising level with each successive flush. Any ideas anyone?

If you don't have a plunger, make one.
Get a load of scrunched up carrier bags, put them in another carrier bag, put some string around the neck.
Push into the hole, pull out.

After trying a number of the things suggested on here (mop, wire rod), I eventually took the plunge and got one of these from my local DIY store (it was half the price of that one). It works well and can be rinsed off hygienically before storage.
