I'm with the metal coathanger. You know the type you get with dry cleaning. Untie the joint and make it into one long strip of thin metal and it should mould around the pipe bend as you feed it through and shift the blockage.
Good luck.Keeper of 2 children, 2 dogs, 2 cats & thankful that you can only have 1 husband at a time.0 -
if your toilet is connected with a flexible pan connector give it a squeeze - the paper may be stuck in this (concertina like ribbed pipe) connecting to the drain.0

We use a 4ft by 2in drainage pipe to blow the blockage away!0

hi
i used to suffer from periodic blocked loo for about 18 months (i blamed 3 daughters). nothing worked including powerful cleaner, wire, plunger etc. then i saw a compressed air plunger device on sale at qvc for about £20. two blasts and i've been clear for about 12 months now.Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
Thanks, hot water and the mop worked a treat.0

My mum's away and it's now that my brother decided to block the toilet with earbuds, tissue and the obvious! I spent all morning trying to unblock it, creating a brown, tissuey pulp in the process. I tried coathangers, plunging, the toilet brush- to no avail. Many people have recommended waiting for the water level to go down before unblocking but i found that when i started plunging while the water level was at its highest the water helped to push the blockage through. I also put loads of toilet duck cleaner in the bowl but i dont know if that actually helped anything other than the smell.
All in all a good days work i think! and even though i know everyone can do it i cant help but feel proud of myself!0 -
Well done.
By a set of drain rods and it could be the start of a whole career0 -
>(I extracted a quantity of partly decomposed sanitary towels once, had to tip what looked like a bucket of dead fish into the dustbin).<
Not good when, thanks to NuLabour, you can wait two weeks in the summer for the bin to be emptied.0 -
The last time we had Dynorod out ( through the British Gas homecare package) for a leaky cystern, we got a big list of do's and dont's from him - including how to clean your bum!! 3 sheets then flush , 3 sheets then flush - would take my kids all night!!! - Dont use quilted Velvet all this and I didnt even have a problem with my toilet! He says the standard charge now if they find something in your toilet that shouldnt be there ( including Kandoo wipes) was £540 !!!! SO we took the Kandoo's out of the toilet now just in case!No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:

Ok, my kids have blocked our loo with too much paper approx 4 times now and i've managed to unblock each time...
First try what the others have said with a toilet brush. If this doesn't work then try putting a bucket of boiling water down.
If this doesn't work, go and buy some costic soda from wilkinsons (i don't know if supermarkets sell it but i bet they do) and read the instructions carefully and use rubber gloves. I have never had it splash in my face before as i'm careful when i use it....you mix it with water then put it down your loo and wait.
I once called someone out to unblock our loo at my old house and it cost us £120 (and this was 11 years ago) i learnt then that they use the same chemicals to unblock your loo, so as a last resort costic soda can save you over £100.
Hi Everyone,
Having suffered a blocked toilet yesterday, I would just like to say thank you to the person who suggested caustic soda. I was busy trawling the internet yesterday for handy hints and tips, and found this thread.
I bought two bottles of caustic soda for my local hardware store, and mixed 100 g into the toilet water, which was sitting just below the rim and draining slowly.
I persevered with this a further couple of times, as the water was still draining slowly, and just left it to work its magic overnight. When I went to flush the toilet this morning, the problem seems to have resolved itself. That caustic soda must be pretty potent stuff!
It was a much cheaper option than calling out a plumber, and if you can resolve these problems yourself, all the better, so, once again, thank you.
Kind regards,
