I received the "you've just won!" email from NS&I yesterday and I just checked now:

£25 on full holding for October
Assuming something approaching average luck, you should do considerably better than this in most of the next few months with the new effective prize interest rate of c. 2 %!

Are any of your bonds in these sequences that won the £1million jackpot for October?

"Two lucky Britons will be waking up £1million richer this morning after winning the Premium Bond jackpot in October. This month's millionaires are from Greater London and Suffolk with the winning bonds 333XB827779 and 226HV323415."

I think I've used up my luck in previous draws  ;) but hey £25 is better than nothing.

No, i'm saying 100% there are glitches in the system...

If you google it, you will easily find a news article recently where NsandI admitted "a small number" of peoples bonds weren't counting in draws. They supposedly "retrospectively" gave people prizes. .... They probably just bunged out a few £25s here and there to keep it hushed up.

Whilst I couldn't be certain I found the article you are refering to I would certainly go for glitches in the system, having experienced one and possibly two myself.
I built up my bonds to full holding by putting money in each month so I have 35 separate purchases, all made online.  When I went to buy the last block of bonds to give me a full holding the system wouldn't let me as that would take me over the full allocation, which contradicted what the screen was showing me and my own records. It turns out there was an issue with one of my previous purchases where the transaction failed to complete and I had to put the purchase through again, part of the system counted the failed transaction and part of it didn't. Were two lots of bonds allocated though? I wouldn't be surprised if there are blocks of orphan bonds in the system with no owner.
The 2nd issue, possibly related to the above but I could never reconcile it, was one of my blocks of bonds never won. I keep track of the wins each block of bonds has, and this particular block stood out as the only one that never ever won. It's entirely possible of course but as the years kept passing by it just started looking plain odd, so I queried it with NS&I asking if any bonds in this range had ever been drawn and what was the action taken. I was told that ERNIE had generated bonds from that range on two occasions but no prizes were allocated as all the prizes were awarded before they got to my bonds. (ERNIE generates millions more bonds than is required).
But guess what, next draw that block won £25, and won a prize each year after.

I've seen a few people saying they can't login since the two factor authentication came in, I had the same problem on Chrome and noticed that if I tried Edge instead I was able to login.

Anyway, I had my first win this month (£25) on a holding of £11,000.  I only held £1,000 from 2018, then doubled in 2019, doubled again in 2021 and have added another £7,000 this year so not really surprised that I hadn't won before.

As an aside I have an old single paper premium bond that I've held since birth, which I can't seem to check as obviously it is not linked to my holder number so can't use the online checker.

I've still got a folder full of many of my original paper premium bond purchase certificates going back to the 1970's and wonder whether I still need to retain them as evidence of purchase if anything ever happens to wipe out the national record keeping computer!   Still, if a magniture like that happens, the eligibility of winning £25 on Ernie will probably be the least of my worries!

I had an old paper £1 bond and sent it NS&I to add to my holding. It's an exhausting process, you need to complete and form and get a professional person to witness my signature. I went through the process and they lost the first form and I had to do another. A lot of work for a £1 bond.

I have £21 old paper bonds, in various small denominations. They were there when, or shortly after, I first registered for online access. I certainly didn't need a professional to witness anything, though I may have filled in a form long ago when holder's numbers were first introduced.

I think the problem with trying to find errors is that you need a ton of data to see it.  They have the tools to check but we do not.
My data only goes back to 2017 (same for everyone?) and I know the online system at first had a LOT of problems for us because we had several holders numbers.
Since 2017 we have only had two winning bonds that were issued before 2000.  We hold £700 that were issued before 2k.
At a rough look of our historical wins, the bonds seem to all have equal chances.  Some odditys do stick out though, both of the "old" bonds that won were from the same £25 group (so £675 made nothing, £25 won £200).  But NS&I should give every bond (not group) it's own raffle ID so other than looking odd, it's normal.
Overall it's a "bad" "investment" for us.

    • 2020 1.35%
    • 2021 1.75%
    • 2022 0.8% (so far)
Thinking it's time to cut and run.  Though, some of our other investments have lost 10% so far this year - perhaps we keep the "bad" NS&I Job lol.
