I think it is a shame that the smallest amount you can purchase now is £100.
The idea was to encourage people to save and parents/grandparents used to buy them now and then as a little investment for their children/grandchildren. However, £100 is quite a large amount (or anyway it is to me).Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

However, £100 is quite a large amount (or anyway it is to me).If you want to compare the value of a £1 0s 0d Income or Wealth , in 1956 there are four choices. In 2016 the relative:
historic standard of living value of that income or wealth is £22.91
labour earnings of that income or wealth is £54.85
economic status value of that income or wealth is £71.92
economic power value of that income or wealth is £92.1442. Where the purchase is made by electronic transfer or under the Regular Purchase Scheme (see paragraphs 28 and 38) the minimum is £50 (fifty £1 units).0 -
....but of course the £1 minimum purchase at launch was a substantially larger sum in 1956 money and, according to https://www.measuringworth.com/ppoweruk/, the equivalent value in current day terms using one of the measures (economic power) isn't actually far off £100:Also note that the Ts & Cs confirm that online or regular purchases can be made in blocks of £50 once an account is open:
My goodness that is amazing that £1 equates to £100 now. I didn't think it would be quite that high:eek:
So now that my grandson already has some bonds, we can buy him £50 worth now and then - is that correct?Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0
