Won £25 this month on 30k holding. Really pleased. First win since Oct last year. I guess something is better than nothing.
I hope someone here gets a big win.
  • My parents bought me about £100 of premium bonds when I was very little. 30 years later and I've never won a penny...
  • Started keeping a record of Premium Bond wins since 1994 to see exactly what percentage returns are achieved jointly by both my wife and me.
    1994 5.0%
    1995 4.4%
    1996 1.87%
    1997 1.25%
    1998 4.0%
    1999 1.25%
    2000 6.25%
    2001 10.0%
    2002 1.4%
    2003 1.5%
    2004 4.5%
    2005 4.5%
    2006 1.0%
    2007 5.0%
    2008 8.1%
    2009 2.5%
    2010 1.45%
    2011 1.22%
    2012 1.16%
    2013 1.45%
These returns are on various amounts invested leading up to the maximum in 2011. Which seems to imply that no matter how large an investment in premium bonds one might have, the average return stays pretty much the same.
It really is the luck of the draw!

I had a few thousand sitting in a cash account doing nothing so I'm in the process of buying some premium bonds. I could be a pessimist and say it may as well be doing nothing in the premium bonds rather than doing nothing in my cash account, but I'll be optimistic and say I'm looking forward to reporting back in a few months of how I'm getting on in my new millionaire lifestyle. :rotfl:

    Good luck with that.
I hope you confirm that prizes greater than £25 now actually exist.

In October 2010, I had a win of £100. Since then my wife and I have received 98 prizes of £25.

    It's a conspiracy.

  • I've had a £25 win every two years on a minimal holding that I've had since 2005. I had to wait nearly 5 years to get my first £25 win!

Last year I probably spent nearly £100 on the lottery, so whilst I withdrew 50% of my PBs in 2012 and decided not to add any more, I think I need that hope of a big win every month.

At least with PBs I'll still have my £100 at the end of the year. I don't mind missing out on £3 interest for that. Over the course of a year I might find £3 in the street anyway!

I'll still play those big lottery draws as well as buying the odd ticket when I've had a bad week at work and really don't want to go back on Monday morning. I can only dream.

Where are you managing to get 3% interest????? Or does your added comment "I can only dream" apply here also? It certainly does in my case. I can only get 1.8% on my building society account and my instant access ISA. :(

And you're allowed to have 2 of these Santander 123 accounts in your name (3% on up to £40K is possible).

In addition to Premium Bonds, has anyone invested in Stockes and Shares ISA or mutual funds or individual stocks.?
I've done the 30k in PB and now need to understand how to manage the incoming stagnant cash. Overseas / developing economies sounds like a good idea but I could do with some advice. Has anyone got any experiences to share about this sort of area?
