Nothing this month on a £30k holding and overall less than I could earn elsewhere over the last 12 months so I've just withdrawn it and closed the account.

Best of luck to everyone else still taking a gamble. :)

Increasing the incentives to invest in Premium Bonds

1.175 Premium Bonds, offered by NS&I, are one of the oldest and best known savings products, held by over 21 million people. The Budget announces that the cap on investments in Premium Bonds will be lifted for the first time since 2003, from £30,000 to £40,000, from 1 June 2014.

It will then be lifted again to £50,000 in 2015-16.

NS&I will also now offer 2 £1 million prizes per month, rather than 1, starting from the prize draw in August this year. This will increase savers’ chances of winning the largest prize and allow people who want to save more through Premium Bonds to do so.

I bought £100 of PBs about 20 years ago and won £100 within 6 months. Since then I've only won £50 but I am considering them as an option for parking short-term cash, just on the off-chance that I get lucky.

I suppose that with the reintroduction of two £1 Million prizes that the number of smaller prizes will be reduced.
Many on this forum (including myself) have been moaning that we can’t seem to win prizes greater than £25. It now looks as if we wont be getting even these small crumbs.

  • But also there will be some more money drawn in though that extra change of £1m (even though the chances are forever not in our favour!!!)

And people who have the money will be chucking an extra 10-20k in to top up their Premium bonds!

Only if they don't get better returns elsewhere.

Have received a regularish £25/month win and was unsure whether to add an extra £2K to take me to the pre-budget limit. Even more confused what to do now :(

Advised my father in law to invest in p bonds as they aren't earning anything where they were and access was too easy for spending. First month on a £20,000 they won 2 x £25 so they are really chuffed!
