Hi there, can anyone explain this to me please. I bought £20,000 worth of premium bonds in January 2012 and have just been on the premium bond site to check the winners for March (£1m - £1,000) wishful thinking I know but thought 'as good a chance as anyone I suppose'!! Anyway surprise surprise I haven't won. What I did find though is that someone in Cleveland won £1,000 on a bond purchased in December 2011 with the same number as one of my bonds, the only difference being the 2 letters!! How does that work??? I know ERNIE doesn't actually generate 'bond numbers' just random numbers that are then matched to actual bonds but I did'nt realise that duplicate numbers were sold to 'investors' by NS&I. Well done person in Cleveland :)

it means- if you had bought another 100 pound or so at the time of your initial purchase you would have probably won it lol

    I'm never had a win in 20 years :(

But I've only got £40 worth of bonds which is probably why...

  • I have done a little bit of analysis of the big winners data (£5,000) and above since 2004 through to March 2012.

It appears that typically people have held their big winning bond for nearly six years in 2011. This has changed quite a bit since 2004 when it was a little over four years.
